  • Jessica Simpson: "Doing 'Newlyweds' Taught Me What Love Is."

True story: one time we waited on Nick Lachey when we were working at a restaurant in Times Square, and we may or may not have accidently spilled a beer on his bowl of mac and cheese.  Granted, the incident was about 85% our own clumsiness and 15% the fault of a well-meaning co-worker whom we didn't see standing next to our left elbow, but still we replaced both the beer and the mac and cheese, and after all, these things happen.

All things considered, the whole experience left us reasonably sure that Nick Lachey is a bit of an asshole, and ever since then we try to posit ourselves on Team Jessica whenever the subject of their divorce arises.  Thus, we have mixed feelings when we hear that J. Simp looks back on the Lachey years with fondness...

  • Nick Lachey To Guest on "One Tree Hill"

Truly, we really thought Dawson was as it was going to get with One Tree Hill guest stars, but we were wrong.  Rumor has it, former boy bander Nick Lachey, is headed to Willmington, NC to play himself in an as yet unspecified number of episodes.  Given his previous guest-starring record (see: American Dreams, Charmed, Hope & Faith), it's safe to say we don't have high hopes for this particular gig.  Ironically, the most believable/likable we've ever found him was on Newlyweds -- a fact that doesn't bode well for a successful acting career.  Chin up, Nick -- how about a hosting a variety show?  Everybody's doing it (and by "everybody," we mean "all Jessica's exes").

Remember the days when you were carefree, married to Jessica, and you both liked leather pants?

  • "HSM: Get in the Picture": Killing Us Softly

Alternate Title: Why We Should Never Trust Nick Lachey

Sometimes when something gets really big, really fast – like say, High School Musical or Newlyweds, we admit to a certain amount of skepticism.  Now, lest Zach Ephron should take offense and try to burn our skin with a handful of his tooth whitening gel, let us just say that it’s not that we hate HSM – secretly, we even kind of enjoy it in all its campy, ridiculous glory -- it’s just that the supernova popularity and also the disconcerting suspicion that Ephron might be a stepford teen leaves us feeling a little unsettled.

Regardless, it seems that ABC has found new and more painful ways to make us uncomfortable with High School Musical: Get in the Picture, a reality series chronicling the artistic journey of show choir kids hoping to score a part in a music video that will run during the credits of this fall's theater release.  Is it us or is even the prize kind of blah? After watching, we feel pretty strongly that Get in the Picture is not only the latest attempt to jump on the HSM cash cow bandwagon, but should most certainly be the last...

Lindy Parker has worked as a ghostwriter, editor, dance instructor and a purveyor of dreams, one beer at a time. She loves Charles Dickens and Gabriel Garcia Marquez and also, straight-to-video releases with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. It's possible she reads more teen fiction than she should. She hails from Los Angeles, her hometown and soul mate, but she lives in Brooklyn, the fling she'll never forget.

Olivia Purnell left Ohio for sunny Los Angeles; then found that she couldn’t ignore New York City’s call, and brought herself to Brooklyn where she has worked with GenArt, BlackBook, the School of American Ballet, and finished an M.A. in Creative Writing from N.Y.U. She loves one-liners with sting and hates the stench of the subway in the summer. That said, she can’t get enough of either.
