Nerds: Say Goodbye To "Stargate Atlantis"

We don't mention this because we dig SGA. We don't; it sort of makes no sense to us, and we were fans of Stargate SG-1 for like a minute. No, we mention this because this, along with Doctor Who being on a long hiatus and the demise of Battlestar Galactica next year, the cancellation of Stargate Atlantis means that Sci-Fi Channel are basically going to be starting their Fridays over from scratch before too long, no? Anyone else get the impression they're clearing the decks for Caprica?

"Lost" Reruns Wash Up On Sci-Fi Channel

Look for Jack and the crazy kids from Oceanic 815 to spend their Mondays on the Sci-Fi channel starting in September, where episodes will run in order and in 4-hour blocks. Which means that there's pretty much no excuse for wayward fans not to get caught up with the show, unless you count "no cable" or "their job," which we don't.

Mad Crazy "Doctor Who" Spoilers Over On Wired

Can't wait to find out what happens in the big cliffhanger this year on Doctor Who, which just aired its season finale in England to huge success? (We'll see it later this month on this side of the Atlantic.) Well, guess that's not surprising. After all, we're not just talking about whatever madcap time-twisted fix the Doc got himself into;the show's being taken over by Coupling creator Steven Moffat, leaving the writers free to imply all sorts of crazy things.

Could (series star David) Tennant actually be leaving? Could (outgoing creator Russell T.) Davies and the BBC keep that kind of a story quiet? It's unlikely. There are ongoing reports of Tennant negotiating for as many as three additional seasons and a salary of £1.3 million. And fans already spied Tennant on the set of the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas special. But, those reports could be smokescreens.

Happy Birthday, "Dark Shadows"!

On this day in 1966, the horror soap opera cult classic Dark Shadows premiered on the ABC television network. We are huge fans of this show, which we first encountered on the Sci-Fi Channel in its earliest incarnation, and which -- though it was noted for delivering serious gothic chills -- was also more than a little crummy. How crummy? Crummy as in on an epic scale. Back then daytime soaps were broadcast live, and if a door didn't open or someone forgot their lines or -- no foolin' -- it was so hot in NYC that you needed to run the AC even though the sound of the motors wound up on the air, well, Jonathan Frid and Joan Bennett and Kate Jackson and the many other actors who portrayed or dealt with vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and the like... They just ran with it.
