
This
has been a rough week for major league baseball. 22-year-old Nick
Adenhart, pictured above, pitched six scoreless innings on Wednesday.
That night, when he went out to celebrate, his Mitsubishi Eclipse was
barreled into by a Toyota minivan running a red light at around 60 mph.
Adenhart and his two passengers, 20-year old Courtney Francis Stewart
and 25 year old Henry Pearson, were killed almost instantly. The
driver, allegedly, was drunk.
Then yesterday came the news that
Harry Kalas, 73-year old Hall Of Fame Phillies broadcaster, collapsed
around 12:30 p.m. while preparing for the Phillies afternoon game. He
was pronounced dead at 1:20. Kallas was a true legend - also the voice
of NFL Films, and an announcer who managed to be accessible, warm, and
authoritative all at the same time. He was like your really smart
uncle. Steve Sabol of NFL Films called him "the voice of the people". . .
