Will "The Aisha Tyler Show" Finally Break Aisha Tyler?

Aisha Tyler is smart,funny, and beautiful. She's got the much-coveted "crossover appeal" to two races and two genders. (Hermaphrodites would probably love her, as well.) She was both Joey and Ross' girlfriend on Friends. She's a good stand-up comedian, a decent actress, even a movie critic. She can sing. For the ladies, she's authored a book and writes multiple columns for women's magazines. For the fellas, she's a home-brewer of beer and a poker player. And she wears see-through dresses. She's got every measurable quality to be a ginormous star - and yet, for some reason, after nearly a half-decade in showbiz, she hasn't become one.

Will her new talk show pilot finally make her as big as she should have been already? Here's the word on the show, which will apparently either be syndicated or on cable:

"The Aisha Tyler Show" is described as a hybrid that will incorporate aspects of a traditional talk show with comedic political commentary, produced comedy segments and other elements usually associated with late-night shows. Aimed at a younger audience, "Tyler" is being developed as a fully "wired" concept, with fans being able to communicate with Tyler via Facebook, Twitter and other platforms.

Now everybody's going to go "wired", we guess. Oh well. Tyler's a 39-year-old woman whose commentary and humor doesn't skew all that young, but that's the coveted target demo. Hopefully, this isn't a square peg round hole type of deal, because Aisha Tyler deserves to be a star.

Password is coming back? Really? What is this, an acid flashback to 1963? Or 1973? or 1987? Or earlier this year, before the economy totally cratered? Seriously, won't this show ever die? These are different, tougher times, shouldn't we have a different, tougher game show? Like Let's Get A Job?

And they're playing for a million dollars? In this economy? Guess so, since it's Million Dollar Password in this, the second season, hosted by Regis Philbin and premiering Thursday the 18th at 8PM with perennial Remote Crush Aisha Tyler and the Great William Shatner -- yep, just going right on like this financial collapse never happened, tossing money around willy-nilly. What, CBS didn't have any money in the market?

Full disclousre, though: if Reege manages to get contestants like Rajeev Vindaloo, we're so there. The answer, always, is "chocolate babies."

Did anyone here order 8,300 words from the paper of record on Tyra Banks? 'Cause it sho'nuff showed up in this weekend's Bulldog™. Not only does the girl have two shows of her own and a few more in production, but it sounds like she's pretty much after our job too.

“When I’m coming offstage after my show, I’m thinking about what’s on my TiVo,” she said. Banks and her mother both have crushes on Larry David, and she never misses an episode of his show, “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Every fall she watches the new prime-time network offerings and bets on which shows will be successful. “I’m usually right,” she told me.

Um, may we humbly suggest Aisha Tyler play Tyra whenever the Larry David part of that inevitably becomes a plotline on Curb Your Enthusiasm? 'Cause God love the girl, we're just not convinced that she can do comedy.
