Michael Vartan Joins the Cast of TNT's New Medical Drama "Time Heals"

Former Alias co-star, Michael Vartan, signs on for the TNT drama, Time Heals, created by Emmy Award-winner John Masius (St. Elsewhere, Providence, Dead Like Me). Not bad, TNT.

Vartan's last project was Big Shots, which lasted eleven episodes [Ed.: And which we watched way too much of.] He is set to co-star with Jada Pinkett-Smith, who is also an Executive Producer of the show. The show focuses on Smith's character, Christina Hawthorne, who is the bold, self-sacrificing Director of Nursing. Vartan will play Tom Wakefield, the Director of Medicine.

And now, perhaps, some speculation about the type of tension that will transpire between these two characters. We'd say, SPOILER, there's a possibility of romance. Look, in TV Land, tension plus passion equals hot buttnekkid sex, right? Does that make Vartan the next Dr. McDreamy? Except on cable? (Ass shot, ass shot, ASS SHOT!)

We had such good times together, girl! Remember The Craft? You chanted extracurricular Wicca spells with your girlfriends to make you the hot girl in school. You gossiped, and strut in slow motion wearing Catholic schoolgirl looks. Skeet Ulrich was there. It was great.

Remember the Scream movies? Scream 1 through 19. Wasn’t Jada Pinkett-Smith in one of those with you . . . Do you two still talk? Cause she’s awesome. Tell her we say hey.

Remember Wild Things? Remember macking on Denise Richards in the swimming pool? You don’t? Well let’s refresh your memory.

As much fun as that whole Wild Thing was, our favorite memory with you is Party of Five. We lurved having you up on the television screen week after week, with your whole fam. You know, Claudia, Owen, Charlie . . . Bailey (did you hear Scott Wolf is having a baby?!?).

There’s this rumor that you’ll be returning to television, Neve. We hear you might be co-starring in an NBC series called Philanthropist. The Hollywood Reporter says:

"Philanthropist," from Universal Media Studios, centers on Teddy Rist (James Purefoy), a renegade billionaire who uses his wealth, connections and power to help people in need around the world.

"Party of Five" alumna Campbell will play the wife of his business partner and lifelong friend, Phillip (Jesse Martin), who runs the two billionaires' charitable foundation and has strong chemistry with Teddy. (thr.com)

THR goes so far as to report that you may be flying to South Africa where Philanthropist is being shot! Is this true? We definitely hope so.

Small suggestion though: Slide the producers your resume and ask if they’ve considered making your character a bisexual spell-casting Catholic schoolgirl who’s friends with Jada Pinkett-Smith . . . because if anyone can work that angle, it’s you.

The Weekly Rewind: Sex and the Country

The Emmys are almost here, and there are new or returning shows on just about every night -- basically, it's a great time to be a TV fan. But don't touch that dial! At least, not until we get to the highlights of the week.

We watched as politics met culture, Tina Fey met Sarah Palin, and no one would stop talking about it.

We learned that when it comes to shows like Gossip Girl and 90210, you really can be too rich and too thin.

We saw Gossip Girl's very own audience magically appear on the show to give Dan and Serena a good tongue-lashing.

We heard Megan Fox and Kristen Bell talk about sex, and pretty much stopped paying attention to anything else for a while.

We went to reality-TV school, but were surprised to learn that some reality contestants became real couples.

We saw Lynne Spears defend herself, though not in court.

We found out who Kelly Taylor's baby daddy was, and asked him to come back.

We wished all the best to Mr. and Mr. Sulu.

We appreciated Jada Pinkett Smith, and crushed on T.J. Thyne and Cesar Milan and Abigail Spencer.

But we felt bad for Ryan O'Neal.

We thought it was terrible when Hurricane Ike took down entire neighborhoods, but kind of funny when it almost took down a weatherman.

And we still weren't tired of Neil Patrick Harris.

Jada Pinkett Smith is our number three girl crush behind Angela Bassett and Michelle Pfeiffer. You know you love her too -- it's hard not to, right? She's this stunning, bold, hilarious woman who's married to a huge movie star, but still has her own thing going on, and she's shooting a new pilot for TNT!

List of Reasons We Think Jada's The Greatest:

1. Because she's so BADASS in the Matrix movies. Do you think she wears that leather outfit around the house? Because we totally would...

2. The way she and Will are always complementary but not too matchy-matchy on the red carpet. We know this is Jada's doing. We all remember Will's pre-Jada fashion.

3. Her voice is kind of loud, but she makes it sound friendly and in-charge, rather than forced and annoying in a Jim Carrey sort of way.

4. Because she's married to a megastar, but somehow manages to command the stage whenever they're interviewed together (i.e. On Oprah: "I told him, you'd better be absolutely sure, because there will be no divorce!" Yes, get it, girl).

5. That episode of 21 Jump Street where she played the straight-edge member of a high school girl gang and gave our eleven-year-old self an education on the evils of dealing drugs.

For all these reasons, we couldn't be more thrilled to see Jada back on TV in TNT's new pilot, Time Heals, about a single mom/nursing director in a North Carolina hospital. Granted, the title's a little cheesy, and it's penned by Touched By An Angel writer John Masius, which could increase its potential sappiness, but we feel like Jada can rock it out anyway.
