Gandolfini Is Coming To Broadway

He better not pull a Piven...

Tony Soprano has signed on to star in God Of Carnage , which will begin previews on February 28th and open March 22nd at the Bernard Jacobs Theatre on Broadway. We can only hope Tony doesn't ask Paulie Walnuts to take care of the rest of the cast, which includes Hope Davis, Jeff Daniels, and Marcia Gay Harden. (Damn. Great cast.) The play, by Yasmina Reza, who did Art, focuses on two married couples who meet when their kids get into a playground fight. It's currently playing in London, where it stars Ralph Fiennes. Gandolfini's been on Broadway before, but the last time was 14 years ago, in a 1995 production of On The Waterfront. He's a hell of an actor, but now he's so associated with a single role - it'll be interesting to see if audiences can get past that, or if they'll expect Act 2 to be set in the Bada Bing.

Give Mickey Rourke A TV Show. Now.

We've got some ideas...

So, as promised, we saw The Wrestler, and...damn. It's hard for an actor to upstage Marisa Tomei being half-naked for half a movie, but Mickey Rourke does it. He is unbelievable, and well deserving of his Golden Globe. So the question is, where does Mickey go from here? The web is buzzing about him being a villain in Iron Man 2 and some dumb new Stallone action flick, but frankly, after that performance, both choices leave us a little cold. Problem is, there aren't many movies Mickey Rourke can star in, because...well, because of Mickey Rourke's face. Long past his sex-symbol days, now he's just too broken-down and time-ravaged for leading-man roles, except in a movie about a guy who's broken-down and time-ravaged. But there's always TV, the medium of James Gandolfini and Michael Chiklis.There's no reason Rourke couldn't do great work as a complex television antihero, you know, the type of guy Joshua Alston of Newsweek thinks there are too many of already. Shhhh, Alston, there's room for one more. And here are some ideas for TV leading-man roles for Mickey Rourke:

1) Worn-down, busted-up parolee adjusting to life on the outside.

2) Worn-down, busted-up hired assassin.

3) Worn-down, busted-up drug addict, trying to keep his family and career together.

4) Worn-down, busted-up undercover cop.

5) Worn-down, busted-up Gossip Girl.

Okay, maybe the last one not so much. But you get the idea.

James Gandolfini Makes A Killing Auctioning Off Tony Soprano's Clothes

The top earner of last night's auction of Sopranos wardrobe in New York City was an outfit Tony got shot in -- bringing in "$43,750, nearly 12 times Christie's pre-sale estimate" -- but even if all you wanted was a little something to piddle around the house in, well, fuggetaboutit.

[James] Gandolfini was at the auction to see Soprano's signature white tank top, light blue striped boxer shorts, striped short robe and leather scuffs went [sic] under the hammer for $21,250, again soaring above the pre-sale estimate of $1,500.
Another robe -- forecast to go for $1,500 -- fetched $13,750...

Proceeds of the sale -- largely organized by Gandolfini -- went to charity, benefitting viewers still traumatized by The Sopranos' season finale. (Ha, we kid; the money went to Wounded Warriors.)
