“TMZ” Renewed? For Two More Seasons?

There’s nothing truly wrong with TMZ. It’s not necessarily our cup of tea. We don’t necessarily care what Mary Carey is up to. Nor do we need to know about the whereabouts of Brandon Davis and his posse. We don’t even need TMZ photos of Brit-Brit looking slightly rough but basically regular (see above pic). All that info is fine and well and good. We just don’t need it. What do we need? Pushing Daisies.

We know that Fox and ABC aren’t the same network. We know that we’re comparing apples and oranges. But c’mon, really?

TMZ = Tabloid show in which photogs and videographers of varying levels of sleaze/talent introduce clips of celebrities and pseudo-celebrities running errands, making fools of themselves, and generally basking in the florescent light of fame.

Pushing Daisies = Lee Pace

Two more seasons for the tabloid show, and we get no more Lee Pace? That ain’t right. It just ain’t right.

What’s more surprising: that megalomaniacal rapper Kanye West was arrested after a scuffle with the paparazzi…or that TMZ was hangin’ at the airport and got it all (allegedly) on tape?

Are the numberless minions of TMZ just everywhere in L.A.? Did they follow West to the airport? How can a seven-year-old be detained as a terrorism suspect, but it’s cool for roving cameras to film right outside gate security?

Maybe today’s date has us a bit up-in-arms, but for once, our sympathies lie with Kanye. Then again, because TMZ was there, we get to watch the scuffle...

The man in grey is allegedly Kanye. (Ooh, new album title?) As CNN.com (owned by parent co. Time Warner, which also is part-owner of TMZ) reports:

Police arrested rapper-producer Kanye West on Thursday morning at Los Angeles International Airport on felony vandalism charges after an altercation with two paparazzi, airport police said. The incident, near the airport's Terminal 4, involved the rap star, Don Crowley -- his road manager and body guard -- and a photographer and a cameraman who were taking their photos, airport police said. The cameras of the paparazzi were damaged in the altercation, police said.

TMZ has a Puck squad, apparently, a crack team of journalists who spend their days trailing the ex-Real Worlder as he, um, goes to clubs and brags about impregnating lesbians and pays his traffic tickets. Bravo, TMZ -- we were hurting for an example of how not to age!

Did CSI's Warrick Brown nail someone's girlfriend in an ecstasy-induced haze? That's the only think we can think when reading TMZ's take on Gary Dourdan, um, walking down the goddamn street...
