After
reading everyone's response to Question 2, I
thought, "Hell, we could start a new wave of sexual open-mindedness if
we reached enough people."
Nancy
and I experienced similar problems
with Ms.
Susie
felt supported by her '70s feminist parents and
experienced success as a writer in the '80s, yet she too felt discriminated
against for being a vocal sex-positive lesbian.
Sallie
has less of an ax to
grind with feminism but also felt like an outsider because of her
bisexuality. I know that syndrome well. I was surprised to hear that
Daphne
got flack for enjoying Pretty Woman's "immutable female
fantasy of being rescued by Prince Charming" because I think that myth is
as alive and well today as ever. Just between us, I can still get off on the
pretty woman fantasy if I include the white horse in the action.
Similar to Nancy, I came of age sexually during the second half of the '60s when sex was still seen as fun adult play, a way to discover our own personal power. Since my initials spelled BAD, I always felt entitled to be a bad girl. Everyone accepts the idea that painters are different, so breaking the rules was simply seeking my unique vision. Unlike Sallie who felt men simply got to fuck more, for me the sexual revolution was an opportunity to be a sexual equal to men. At the time, I was in my forties with a Marine haircut, and I saw to it I had an orgasm with casual sex by being a "rigid top" and running the fuck. Definitely not romantic sex, more like a competitive sport that was very exciting . . .
