Eric was my first serious, steady boyfriend and my first sexual experience. After dating for a while, we were both very anxious to "do it." On the fateful day, Eric picked me up from school in his white Mustang with the black convertible top. He always kept some Jack Daniel's in the glove compartment, and I think we had a little nip for courage. His parents were not home, so we went to his house and up to his room and got into it after a little awkwardness. Things were going along quite romantically when an unmistakable, unforgettable voice began to sing on the radio. It was my father [Nat King Cole].
Eric and I both freaked. It was as though my dad was there, knocking on the door. I don't even remember the song, but it was definitely him, and we both felt his presence. It was an eerie moment, but I am happy to say that Eric and I got over it and resumed our activities to different musical accompaniment. I am also happy to say that it was a wonderful experience and I'm grateful to Eric that it was. (Los Angeles, 1966)
