My roommate walked in one day and said, "The trouble with you is that you've never been laid!" and walked out. Foolishly, I accepted this analysis. I went home with someone I hardly knew, but he would do. We were having a nice time in bed, but just before we "did it," I told him I had never "done it" before. He got very concerned and suggested I wait and "do it" with someone I loved. I assured him "it" was no big deal. Then I took his remarks and twisted them to mean that men don't like to "do it" with inexperienced women. I decided I would never let on if there was something I didn't know. I would learn fast and fake the rest. Well, you can imagine which part got faked.
The next morning, he went to work and I went to wash the bloody sheets. I ached between my legs so badly I could hardly move. When I walked into the laundromat, I had this feeling that all the women were secretly saying, "First time, huh?" or "Well, now you know," or "Not what you had imagined?" I thought, We women are so sad. (Los Angeles, 1967)
