Photo Intern

About the internship
As a Nerve photo intern, you will help with all aspects of editorial production for the online magazine: researching new talent, calling in books, editing and formatting images, organizing the archives and photo library, brainstorming future story ideas, and organizing shoots. The position is hands-on, and is a good entry to the photo editorial world.

Who we're looking for
College students and recent graduates who can work 2 full days a week in our Manhattan office. Applicants should be psyched about nerve.com, and our subject matter: we cover sex, relationships and culture- our original, edgy coverage of photography, film, books, TV and music receives half a million unique readers per month.

You're interesting in photo editing, and are plugged into the photo scene. Ideally, you're a photographer yourself. You're well rounded-- you can appreciate Vice and Suicide Girls, but you also hit the gallery scene.

Stipend
This is an unpaid internship.

How to apply
Email "photo[at]nerve.com" with the following documents:

  • A cover letter describing yourself and what you would bring to Nerve’s photo department, and how a Nerve internship relates to your future goals. Please also include a link to your own photographic work, a list of your favorite photographers and name your favorite publications, photo and otherwise.
  • A resume

Please send attachments in Word or Rich Text format.

Editorial Interns

About the internship
As a Nerve intern, you'll have opportunities to write for the site and participate in editorial meetings. You'll also get a unique, behind-the-scenes look at how a web magazine comes together. And your friends will think you have the best job ever. Of course, you will also do your share of grunt-work: research, office organization, buying caffeinated beverages. But we promise to take you out drinking at least once.

Who we're looking for
College students and recent graduates who can work 2-3 full days a week in our Manhattan office for a minimum of four months. We want you to be into Nerve as well as the subjects we cover: sex, culture, music, film, art, journalism, and literature. If you're creative, self-motivated, and professional, all the better.

Stipend
$200-300 a month (depending on time commitment) and unlimited espresso.

How to apply
This is a very hands-on, involved internship, so we want to make sure you're a competent writer with an understanding of the site. Email "nicolea [at] nerve.com" with the following documents:

  • A short review of a film, any film, you've recently seen
  • One blog entry for either Scanner or Screengrab
  • Two detailed story ideas for Nerve
  • A resume
  • A cover letter telling us why you're interested in a Nerve internship

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please send attachments in Word or Rich Text format.
