I'm embarrassed to write this because it's a total cliché — but is there any acceptable way to hit on a girl in a coffee shop?
For what it's worth, I'm a girl, too, and I'm fairly certain this chick is gay. The lez angle may change things slightly, but, queer or not, I assume we've all been there. So… what do I do? Show up all the time and try to make jokes about espresso shots? Awkwardly slip her my phone number sometime? This is a cafe I go to all the time, so I don't want to go out in a blaze of glory and then need to find another cafe. I'm sure she gets this kind of thing constantly, too. She's super cute. I don't want to hear things like "just be confident!" or "be flirty!" or whatever. I want to know — has anyone ever successfully picked up a barista? And if so, how? I don't know how to jump that customer-server barrier without making it obvious or awkward.
