Paris’ Pont de Arts bridge, famously lined with “love locks” placed by couples to symbolize their everlasting commitment, partially collapsed last night. A two-meter section of the railing buckled under the tremendous weight. Metal is heavy, but feelings are heavier.
This incident lends credence to the arguments of locals who consider the locks a safety hazard, many of whom hope to ban them altogether. But what about the couples whose locks could be removed? (Sorry. You’re legally required to break up now.)
