The Shocking Similarities Between Photos of Rappers and Pre-16th Century Art

"Whatever is has already been," "time is a flat circle," etc.

Artist and designer Cecilia Azcarate noticed some similarities between her favorite rappers in the year 2014 and art from before the year 1500. Her Tumblr project B4XVI highlights "an invisible conversation between hip hop and art before the 16th century." The juxtapositions remind me of painter Kehinde Wiley's remarkable recreations of heroic portraiture with young black men replacing old nobles. History repeats itself, and Kanye West is right about how historically great he is once again. Dude's rarely wrong, and I will say it until I'm buried in the ground.
