Quantcast

The Myopic Woman

By Ada Calhoun and Sarah Hepola

Fantastic review. You make we want to see the documentary BECAUSE it is so bad...but only if I can fast forward to all the truly hideous parts.

Thanks for the spot-on review! I saw a portion of this film and spent an excruciating hour watching Ms. Fox film herself and egg on women across the world to participate in her completely unparticipatory video technique of passing the camera. Why in her four years of filming she chose to include scenes where she harangues women through translators to take the cameral, scenes where she sits in front of the camera and brings herself to tears with painful (more for the audience than for her) revelations of self-awareness, and scenes where she stares wistfully out of airplane windows is beyond me. Imagine what the other 35514 hours of her life must have been like.

For those who live near Pleasantville, NY, this film will be shown with a Q&A by the fimmaker on Feb 18 & 19 @6:30 @Jacob Burns Film Center. I assume it will be shown over 2 days since it is 350 minutes long.

Again, I loved the essay by ADA and Sarah - so richly observed.

Thank you for these carefully observed, insightful and often hilarious comments. I am a 65 yo man, and I have wanted to see this film since it came out. I hoped it would give me insight into women's thinking and desires. Now I see it would only give me insight into one narcissistic woman. It might be worth the six hours, however, to observe one so lacking in true self-awareness. The NYT review (where I first became aware of the movie) gave no hint of the content elaborated here.

If anyone wants to keep up with the film release and DVD release of this film can go to its web site. It is currently touring college campusses, I think.

The self-absorbed have time to make movies about themselves because they are busy ignoring what other women are tending in their difficult lives. I believe that many women have been forced to become the emotional freaks men are just to get a little sex and affection. Someone should make a doc on that. Also, there is a difference between the vaginal and clitoral orgasm - why limit your possibilities out of prejudice for the retro?
