Reader Feedback on "Stud"
Often with short stories the problem is you don't get time to care a toss about the protagonist. But in this case you are rooting for Shem for the word go-because he represents the inadequate virgin in all our pasts.......

Since reading Michael Lowenthal's short story "Over Boy", I have been compelled to read as much of his work as possible. This story, detached from his typical "gay" genre is a breath of fresh air. At least someone is writing fiction that doesn't have to do with third world countries, UFO's or families in crisis. A talented and intimatly skilled writer is alive in Lowentahl.

Good read. Creative. I enjoyed it. Not much of a critique, but I thought you might like to know.

Beautifully written, entirely engrossing, and very erotic without hitting the reader over the head with the obvious. To convey what must have been such a mindblowing experience using the written word and never losing the feel of the actual experience shows true talent! What a rollercoaster of emotions! I couldn't have asked for a better erotic short story on such short and unexpected notice. Don't let this guy stop writing!

Shall I add my two cents to this already glowing body of feedback? Excellent work--strong narrative voice and imagery, and very, very hot, without being insipidly erotificated. A fresh reversal of the cliche of the male "rock star" blithley taking his sexual fill of a handy female "fan," and quite a tender exploration of the subjectivity of sexual experience. And--I find this delightful, coming from a male writer--the recurrent image of the main character's pierced tongue serves wonderfully, as such a focal point and topic of interest in the unfolding of the story, to echo and suggest the clitoris, the locus of female sexual experience. Smiles all around.

very GOOD. What is it with stories on Nerve not actually being sexy? Well this one was, AND sentimental in just the right way.

Fuck YEAH! Made me hungry, wet and nostalgic at once. I always knew there was more yet to Holden Caulfield. I'd met one myself in my jailbait time, another during my cradle-robbing year. Every story of yours is better than the last, and then better yet. Keep on writing. alloralogos@hotmail.com alloralogos here at nerve.com _Juliana
