It started out in typical Stahl style - a bit too clever and peppy patterish but by the end I was laughing with true delight at the genuine humor. Maybe Stahl has some substance afterall.

oh just plain beautiful, I am that guy, like wow, what a sense of identification, all the thinking too much... turning action into inaction and the guilt of knowing exactly what is going on but being unable to stop it - my hat (and half my clothes) go off to you, tipped in your favour - on a nerve chat forum there was once a discussion of perversion - what a beautiful exemplification of the perverse - gee whiz....grin

Hey! Very twisted and dark! Loved it. Thought the girl was a little kid at firstc of of the peeing. I thought she was peein' in her pants. But then I realized it was like a teenage girl with a teenage boy and that was sick in its own way too. Having recently read Stahl's memoir, Permanent Midnight, it was a joy to read this excerpt. Stahl's style is singular and lucid. His sense of humor fills the sails of his prose and off you go. I'm already anticipating this novel as a millennial, proudly perverse updating of On the Road. For all you naysayers, check out Permanent Midnight, or at least see the movie, though the book is far superior. Thank you Nerve for giving this great American writer some much-needed publicity!
