Reader Feedback on "Boygirl, Boygirl"
Overall, Rach, I liked your crit. But you depend too heavily on what defines a lesbian, don't you. *You* know, and *I* know... but where do we individually occupy that continuum between one extreme and the other; between what's 'normal' for the world and what's not?
So, are these the questions to ask? While Brandon fucks Lana, is he a lesbian? Genetically he's a woman (what the TVs and TGs call a GG -- a genetic girl), and he's making love to another woman. He's a lesbian. Yes? The same goes for Lana. She is making love to a woman, ergo she too is a lesbian. Don't tell me about bi this and bi that... in my opinion that is just greed, cake-and-eat-it stuff.
The preamble says: "A reviewer marvels at Boys Don't Cry and puzzles over pronouns." I didn't see much puzzling here, only a thought about how a bartender addresses you. But have a look at the messages in the newsgroup soc.singles.moderated and misc.writing, where the 'gender'neutral' pronouns 'zie' and 'zir' are used. They sound like rubbish, but they're one answer -- at least for written communication.

Ah! my dear Rachel,
Real lesibian scenes, simply don't make for Academy Award Winning, actresses. Its about the money and the perceived "norm".
