Erin, excellent advice on all three. The first two have actually happened to me. Argh.

Hey Kat, Nervous Flyer's BF bought the ticket. She said so in her letter, I guess that part got edited out. Sorry for any confusion. xoxo Miss Info

if your roomate is your friend and you moved into the place together (i.e. it wasn't a place she was already living in and you moved into it later) then I think you have every right to confront her, tell her the situation is getting out of hand, and he can only stay over 3 nights a week. (or however many night you decide). Doesn't he have an apartment? Can't they go there? If she gets pissed, I suggest you head out to the bars, pick up the nearest slobbering drunken fool, and bring him home. Tell your roomate this is YOUR new boyfriend. Encourage him to drink all your roomate's beer, then tell him her bedroom is the bathroom. That should get the message across in a jiffy.

Why do you assume Nervous Flyer's boyfriend bought the ticket? Maybe she bought it herself.

I had a roommate pull the whole live-in boyfriend thing without permission, only her idea of fairness was to have the boyfriend to chip in for half her utilities (so she got a discount, my other roommate and I did not). I guess it was a bit easier in that with three people, the other roommate and I were able to forbid the guy living there. I guess if you are really intimidated about confronting your roomie and can't afford to move, you can always buy a mini-fridge for your room. Then only keep your condiments, basics like flour/sugar/spices, and frozen uncooked meats/veggies in the kitchen. I doubt the guy would defrost your hamburger the same way he'd go after your toaster strudel. He might eventually get the idea if all the edible food immediately disappears from the main fridge. He uses your soap? Gross. Buy bodywash or you can really go dorm-style and get a shower caddy. But the ultimate solution... move out.
