i don't know why anyone would be surprised about how white the construction workers are. it's perfectly in line with the rest of nerve; there's not a lot of color on nerve generally. recently, okay, there was hanif kureishi, there was bit on kelis, and there was the sex advice from taxi drivers, but that was far more ironic than this piece. you can't really complain about it though - it is what it is. if you want to know why, take a peek at the masthead or scroll through the contributing writers list.

C'mon, where are the sturdy 65y/o+ Greek foremen, the French Canadian Mohawk ironworkers, the Cajun wide-eyed engineers from backwater towns, the Japanese techs in Godzilla-movie jumpsuits, the Portuguese ex-fishermen union foremen with huge mustaches and larger forearms, the thunderthighed biker chick Latina crane operators, the ex-con ex-Black Panther philosophical security guys, the wide-drawling hunting-loving Texan safety officers, the redheaded Irish female steamfitters, the part-time firemen and 24-7 hot Brazilian flagwomen who don't talk good English but know their stuff like no one's business?
