Reader Feedback on "Obama in the History Books"
I hope and pray this comes true -- 11/08 |
Ok. I'm on board 100% with your sentiment, but otherwise this is pretty thoughtless writing. It's like something out of Freshman Comp. Technology equals direct democracy? Cf. the problems in any district that this last round (like the last two elections) that used touchscreens. Having elected an African-American president, we're suddenly going to go blind to sexual orientation? Tell that to the African Americans who overwhelmingly voted to ban same-sex marriage/unions on Tuesday. France is being over-run by immigrants? Have you been there, or only to Paris? And way to play up the boogeyman of the frotier fundies. Nevermind that social conservatives by and large are the product of the burbs, or that the frontier out of neccessity fostered a degree of community welfare that'd be unfathomable to us today (clearly). But again, awashed with sentiment, it's hard to be interesting. Give it another go in a year's time. --CK 11/06 |
Hear hear!
I think that's a reasonable prognostication. This bring's to mind Robert Wright's book Non-Zero (which Bill Clinton encouraged members of his administration to read / Robert Wright is better known for The Moral Animal), which makes the case that over tens of thousands of years of human history, collections of people who have cooperated more effectively with those around them have out-competed people who cooperated less effectively with those around them. Inclusiveness is powerful, and it's the core of America's cultural and economic might. If we don't let the vocal minority of angry, xenophobic Republicans (W's base) sway our path again, we will continue to benefit from the great American history of non-judgmental cooperation and pragmatism.
Barack Obama is a latter day Abraham Lincoln, and though it won't be easy, I do believe that this is the beginning a fundamentally new chapter in American history, and geopolitics more broadly.
Go Obama ! --ted 11/06 |
GOBAMA. . AMERICA IS LOOKING SEXY AGAIN
Congratulations on your new President!
What a night ! Filled with such excitement , loaded with emotion and passion.
Barack Obama’s acceptance speech in Chicago will give you an idea of this man's ability to lead and unite his country in a cosmopolitan world, make friends again with those countries who shunned away from the Republican politics but not the American people. . .
yes, we can.
The people here in Europe and in the rest of the world are tired of young men fighting an old man' s war. Tired of Republican politics that no longer belong or represent the world or the people who live in it. Tired of seeing what humans are doing to other humans. Tired of the killings and the murdering committed in God’s name.
Time has come for America to pick itself up and to rally around this man.
Give him your fullest support to rebuild your country. Give him time to overcome the tremendous burdens messed up and passed to him by Bush.
yes, we can.
Thanks to the voters - America is looking sexy again
