it makes me feel as though i am enemy of my own people every time i see "you are what you fuck". i am chinese/filippina and my boyfriend of more than a year is white. oh well. big deal. and the fact that the author wholeheartedly agrees with him makes me angrier. how can you endorse racism? it's as though we've taken a time warp trip back to the fifties when it was illegal for caucasian and african citizens to get married, or even for just having sex! just because i am dating a white male, doesn't mean that i am incapable of liking black, indian, middle eastern, latino, asian. this so called "professor" is just using the lack asian males in a predominantly caucasian pornography in an attempt to get more ass.

I thought this was thoroughly fascinating. As an Asian-Canadian female living in a Northern town, I've never dated Asian males simply for the fact that a) there were none where I live until very recently and b) the very few who do live here are like brothers to me and that would just be weird. The article has made me re-evaluate how I view the asian male because to me, they've always been like "family" and totally un-dateable.

What interests me the most is how much the word pervert comes up in these responses. You’d think that this article appeared on cnn.com or something. Folks, you’re on the Nerve.com website, and if for one second any of you think that you’re not in the least bit a pervert, you’ve really got something coming. Sure it’s sort of surprising that a college professor is making a statement using mainstream, hardcore pornography, but then again, that’s just another large aspect of American culture. No matter how right wing Christian your neighbor might think he/she is, I’m sure there’s a closet of porn somewhere Personally, as a Chinese American, I think this guy’s motives are quite honorable. I’ve never dated an asian gal before since all of my friends are white and that’s the culture I’ve grown up in. As such, I’m still hurt by the amount of times my ex-girlfriends are asked as to the size of my goods. As such, watching current pornography (and as big of a thing as pornography is, isn’t it safe to say that it can actually influence individual beliefs?) there is no real depiction of Asian male sexuality. The only depiction we get is the common joke that Asian males are extremely underhung, going so far as to grace common media (southpark.) If there is a point to the professor’s motives, I’m hoping this is it, since at the time, there isn’t much glory to dating an Asian fellow—especially in comparison to the other races in the world.

This guy (the professor/pornographer) sounds like he's trying too hard. I've had a Cantonese roommate who got laid much more than I, and another Chinese neighbor who was the most asexual man I've ever met. With that said, I'd like to propose a shocking theorum: different people from different cultures fuck differently. Why try to compare yourself against percieved "White" with a capital "W" penis sizes and sexual drives, or for that matter, African, Hispanic, or whatever? Of course mainstream American porn is predominately caucasian - mainstream America is predominately caucasian! Duh! JC, I'm half black and half asian (Thai), and I have to agree with the others that are critical of the way this guy presents himself. If you boil it down to what he says and how he says it, it's just plain racist. And nobody'd mentioned how sexist also. You talk about how many years Asian men have been desexualized in America. How about we talk about how many years Asian women have been subjugated, not just by Western notions of sex slavery, but by OUR OWN ASIAN CULTURES? In fact, it could be argued that the Western notion of an Asian woman's role was informed by their limited notion and experience with them in Asian settings. Anyway, hiding behind PC firewalls all day, and blaming Westerners for your own feelings of inadequacy won't change anything. And indeed, this guy doesn't want to change anything, he just wants to use that PC ruckmaker personna to be naughty. That's not a bad thing, but let's not moralize to others while we do it, OK?

Oh let's all relax a bit... No 1, why all the puritanical below the belt hits at his intrest in explicit sexuality and it's impacts on Asian men? How many of these negative comments about the Prof have been made BY Asian men? Is it because SEX is the tar and feathers that this society uses to flame others at the drop of an opinion? I mean since YOU all here have not been so REVEALING of YOUR sexual desires and frustrations , I think it's pretty F@#! up that we crawl out of the corners slinging "pervert" insults. I think the "white guys" here should just chill and take a few on the chin after the hundreds of years of racisim that asian men have had to endure. I mean a lot of you feel the same resentment(and facination) when you get rejected by white women only to see them run off with a "big strong" black man...who didnt necessarily have to flash a lot of cash and the other acourtements of society to charm them. Since when is porn "an expression of affection"?? If this guy wanted to "celebrate" Asian male sexuality maybe porn really is not the best way. What the fsck? And where is his audience for this porn anyway- as he said it himself, Asian people usually fantasize about white people and I don't think many white males (the main consumers of porn) and big into watching an Asian guy fsck an Asian girl. Maybe our prof of Asian studies should look into why the Asian American population is adding to the general "white imperialist" screw over of the world by voting mainly Republican. I checked it the other day ...it hasnt changed that much. But there is a new feature page tha seems to be in the works. There is a member ship thing that is free with a database of the films. I joined it last year and I havent been spammed,so I dont think it is a scam... in fact i havent heard from him at ALL! seems he is more caught up in doing his research than in trying to make a buck. I was wondering about that too with regard to Jean Marc Roc aka Iwao Ryu.. I like the fact that he really stays away from the denigrateing and exploitative aspects of explicit sexuality, and insists that everything begin with respect. I mean sometimes he is a bit intellectual for me and emphasises the subtle points of physical sexual arousal when I wanna see just wild hot sex! :P but Hey! I mean every one is entitled to their vision! What is that website?

Interesting reading. Actualy Hamamoto is not the first academic to take on this issue Jean Marc Roc(aka Iwao Ryu) a Eurasian graduate from Columbia U's School of International and Public Affairs's and a East Asian Institute graduate at the same school, has been investigating Asian sexuality personaly in the US and Asia since the mid 80's! He has had several coveted and highly sought after video releases in Europe and the USA, as well as maintained a seldom updated (but interesting ) website on his research and films using his asiaerotica production company name since the stone age of the web, way back in 1995! What I have found interesting about him ...(beside the fact that he disproves the usual sterotype of asian men being "short changed" this guy is HUGE! by ANY standard!) is his ability to get women to be really emotionally and sexualy involved in what he does. His sexuality is not faked and it is more like a documentary of the eroticisim. He speaks Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai. So women, especialy everyday Chinese and Korean women in his home base of New York City as well as in Asia are willing to get sexual with him, that you would never imagine would want to make a sexualy explicit film. It may be because as immigrants not speaking the language, the women in his films are compleatly outside of, and utterly incompatible with the typical USA porn industry culture, or perhaps he may just have stumbled on some magical way of getting to explore and reveal the hidden sexuality of the everyday Asian immigrant community. Either way I am suprised that I have not seen him mentioned here! Hamamoto is definitely not the first!

This guy's a professor? I guess we now know what little mental rigor is needed to be a professor of Asian-American studies. His quotes are sophomoric, "Yella womenz" and "We know how to fuck. Look how many Asian motherfuckers there are around the world", that'd be more appropriate coming off some yellow version of Def Comedy Jam, not someone entrusted with teaching young minds. Honestly, he just sounds sad and stupid, trying to create some kind of artificial demand or cachet for Asian-American studs (seriously, porn is about as egalitarian a medium as you will find. If there was some significant market out there for Asian-American sex studs, it'd already be served, just as any other "fetish" or kink gets served in a nano-second today.) If he was just honest about it, and said "I'm an Asian-American middle-aged pervert, and I just want to film some hot fucking" then I'd give him credit. But trying to clothe it in neo-racist retoric (comments like "White Supremacist America" and "Don't settle for a pink White man who has more hair on his back than on his head") and mushy-headed academic claptrap just makes him sound disengenuous. Like the cliche college teacher's aids in the 60's, luring young coeds back to their off-campus pads with the promise of wine, and Japanese etchings and bawdy poetry, this is just a tweedy pervert trying to get laid without saying so.
