I loved it. I think it really captures the desire of someone wounded to experience intimacy from afar and then the sad realization that we can't be close and distant at the same time.

This is my favorite Aimee Bender story, I think, ever. I love the part about being tired of telling the same insecurities to different boyfriends, and the thing about how the men washed the cookie plate before they left. The ending is less "nerve," but it's good fiction.

I think the ending lends the essay a more personal, artistic, real life feel, not the smooth open ending of erotica. The essay was not just for us to fantasize about; it was a statement about life, even when the sex has ended. I liked it.

I agree -- I like it much better when I stop reading before the last paragraph. Let them all be together, nervous but excited. I like it better open-ended.

nicely written but the voyeur, in this case the narrator, is too repressed and there is no release, really, only angst. so ultimately, it is a blue ball kind of story, or a blue clit kind of story, or both. and that's sad, really.
