i think...

ABH: I also have a soft spot for rendez view, but clearly not too many like us since it is the LATEST of all the shows and keeps getting later :-( Greg Proops *is* funny and the show is well edited, and has a nice slice of society as opposed to change of heart or 5th wheel that just kept going downhill in terms of the contestants boringness and ugliness, lol. Anyway, very cute article. Oh, and to the gay man who wrote in, dismissed has had gay shows that made many men more squimish than gay men squimish at hetero dating... I think, or would think... The cool thing about dating shows is that they supercede guy/girl, guy/guy, girl/girl etc., and come out as two ppl trying to get along: and regardless of their exterior, race too here, they are playing similar roles that we can mostly relate to in general on some level.... and if not, well then there must be one person out of the 4 hosts on rendez view that totally agrees with you, so you still identify with (and therefore enjoy) the show.
Anyone watch taildaters on mtv? What about ExTreme Dating? First is occassionally funny, the last awful! --DE 09/13 |
What gets to me the most is that those shows are alternated by cartoons and other kids shows on the WB and UPN. Are kids going to watch these shows and think that they're SUPPOSED to act that way when they start dating? --dms 08/11 |
really fun and spot on! --mm 07/25 |
I like that we're testing the limits of Menken's adage: "No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public." --DGH 07/15 |
The most frightening part about this gameshow-reality-striptease craze is "Meet My Parents." The newest, whitest, most heterosexual show that there ever could be. They should just put these [shows] on pay-per-view right away or do what disney does and send it directly to home video! --nk 07/01 |
A long stint of unemployment left me with little to do but watch UPN's date time TV and try to form a cohesive theory of the downfall of American dating life. "Blind Date" is awful, "Shipmates" and "Change of Heart" make me squirm but I confess to having a soft spot for "Rende-view" as Greg Proops is funnier and smarter than any date show host has a right to be. I can't come up with and decent explanations for this fin de sick-le madness but hours of watching people struggle through their dates has given me new perspective on my own dating life. And I think people shouldn't be allowed to date in their early twenties. --ABH 06/29 |
No shame, no class. Muttering white and black men, tattooed, often fat, earrings, stuck with some woman who would look appropriate on a street corner (toot toot). Once in awhile the contestants are attractive and well spoken. No tattoos, no earrings, no shaved skulls. What a relief. We have come a ways from the Dating Game of the sixties! And I am only 32 and a wild and crazy guy. --JRK 06/28 |
Loved the junior college water polo joke and the funny bottomline to MTV's Dismissed. I think you're opinion articulated the reason why I as a gay man am squimish at the watching heterosexual coupling especially the televised variety. --CFQ 06/27 |
Dearest Ryan,
As an Emerson College graduate in Film Studies all I can say is THANK YOU for expressing your views. This is the reason why I enjoy reading nerve.com, it shares most of my views and sets things straight. --LM 06/26 |
