I dunno, it sure sounds like a stalker song to me. I was always more partial to "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" as a love song. Loved the piece, Rachel, not least because I think we're the same age. Also? I can totally relate to the devastating awkwardness of having a crush feel embarassed for me. On my very first date, I was so nervous that I could barely speak THE ENTIRE TIME. The only exchange I remember was at dinner when our sodas arrived: he took the straw out of his glass... so I did, too. He looked at me kind of mystified, and said, "You don't have to do that, I just don't like drinking from straws." "... Me neither," I choked. The only other coherent thing I said that evening was " stupid, stupid, stupid," in my bedroom, while I banged my head against the wall, trying to induce amnesia.

Nice writing style. but too convenient to criticize that song's lyric as the stuff of lover stalking, when a better criticism is that it's the stuff of profiling, a far more dangerous and prevalent social illness. Then again, you don't live in the west, where multitudinous cowboy cop wannabees drive sunglassed SUVs with crew cuts and added sunglasses to further the intimidating warden effect. Remember in Deer Hunter when the Viet guy forced them to play Russian roulette while repeating Mao! Mao! Mao! I've taken on the habit of repeating Profaw! Profaw! Profaw! for obvious reasons whenever I encounter such neoconservative cowboys. Which is often. Too often. At the corner of Haight & Asbury is a Gap Store. I'm 47, I hate Sting, a band named The police (Yeah, that's a good name for a band... Not!) and everything about your generation, including the traitors from my generation who basically created yours, who "told you what to dream." (Pink Floyd) That's the real screwup underneath this crap. Y'all should get a clue and turn against yourselves. Like to say "Get A Life" and make yourself appear tougher than thous? Hmmm? Kiss my ass, every single one of you. You stank up the whole damn society with your god, Sting. Yeah, STing's a Jazz musician. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. That's the dark little secret. Anyone with half a brain knows that conservatives have always promoted meanness. You idiots just got suckered right into it. Guess what? It's not necessary. Get a clue, and get some compassion in your soul. Hurry up. There still may be time to save us from becoming Mildred and Montag. (Bradbury)
