I think any compassionate person would agree that animal abuse is wrong and immoral. There are sanctuaries for wild animals, including chimps and monkeys that are abused and abandoned. I cringe when I see someone with a sad little monkey and a tin cup on some street. Zoos such as San Diego and the Wild Animal Park have done much to educate people about wild animals and what care is needed.

You don't fuck with wild things, obviously. Anyone who keeps a lion in their back yard deserves what they get, (like those two guys in Vegas), but this situation is different. These are abused living things taken out of bad, bad situations. Cut some slack, wouldja?

Although chimps share 98% of our genes (I think that is the term) some scientists are thinking of creating "humanzees"-hybrid chimps and humans. After what happened in California with the vicious attack on a couple and the shooting of two other excaped chimps, how long will it take before chimps are recognized as dangerous wild animals? Wasn't Jane Goodall horrified to find out years ago (see an old N Geographic) that chimps can be murderous cannibalistic savages among their own? Likewise, how about non -zoo laymen who maintain wild cats,etc in enclosures in back yards? A woman in So Calif several years ago lost an arm to a "pet lion" that decided to take a swipe at her. A recent LA Times piece discussed the reality of chimps who are not cute and treated as mini humans in hats, clothes, etc after around age 7 or 8. Monkeys are lousy pets--dirty and out of control. How many people keep baboons as pets? Check out those canine fangs and their strength!
