No, I agree with bs -- the ending is far too obvious. That's what's so humbling. You think you're really smart and special, and then you end up in the same dumb situation everyone told you you would, and where all the dumb people before you went, and you don't even have the luxury of drawing brilliant conclusions from it. And JDV -- not to take Joe's side or anything, but he really wasn't into Satanism. He was just very fond of Anton.

bs: some of us have been following the whole thing, instead of watching "the real world". we prefer some content. but i guess jumping in now might not make sense.

An Irksome tale with a fast moving text. Regrettably the ending is far too obvious otherwise an enchanting tale.

"joe" seems like a giant snoozefest. I mean, the guy was what, 36 when he was all wrapped up in being satanic and shit?! I know that Levay had a very complex philosophy behind all that crap, but "joe" seems like that puppy dog in the cartoon who jumps back and forth saying "hey Spike, I'm tough, right? You like me, right?" and then Spike gives him a backhand and says "shaddup." And then the little puppy dog goes right back for more. I hate people who define themselves by narrowing. Anybody so totally concerned with others' weaknesses has more than a few of their own. Adolescent pursuits beyond the age of 25 are just pathetic. But, it was a nice read, as usual. Glad you came to your senses.

the "article" reeks! What I want to know is WHY you gave her a platform to SHARE this with anyone?????

The kid is here. He's six. He just said he wants to have his honeymoon in space.

Okay, it was a good story, but what happened to the baby (or fetus)? Did she have the baby? Did Joe have to pay child support? Or was it sacrificed in some bizarre ritual?

Mostly unconnected thoughts on this entry: - It must be nice to able to afford enough rooms to keep one's entropy out of one's living space, but it's better to keep it in the living space, acknowledge it and deal with it. A metaphor of sorts, 7 rooms of dark baggage separate from but in the same apartment as 2 rooms to live in. - I love the parts about hunger. They remind me of westerns, military missions. If I were ever in a signed band that toured, I would NOT want catering. I would want peas from the can and milk from the carton, bought by me. - The self-styled dominant wanting to be bound forever to their partner is an interesting formulation ... desires are in part inherently conflictual, and not just those of "uppity slaves who can't handle what they think they want ... " - How much kissing went on in that scene?!? I have read (and I am inclined to believe it, dupe of the system that I am) that bacteria in the mouth sink through to the rest of the organism and facilitate heart disease, among other things. - This is an extremely lucid look at coming into a pre-formed world. Having spent years 19-24 going out with men in their mid-30's, I heartily agree that one has to get to the knowledge, the potential, the stuff, on one's own terms and time-frame. I am very glad lcc is the type to yank back the curtains.

Oh, as if you never thought/wrote/said something mean! It's part of my job, to reveal things, including how petty I can be. A person especially has to have a job when they haven't gotten any child support in five years. I stand by my right to be small!

Joe's mother asked her not to get mean, but she turned into the cruel woman every female being becomes when they experience motherhood. Poor Joe...

Bernadette leaves on Friday for a tiny island in the south pacific (I'm not kidding!) where she will live in a little cabin. I believe she'll be gone three months. Rachel just moved to Hawaii. She'll be gone two years.

Lisa - having known "joe" in the past, this is all very enlightening, and amusing, and confusing, and . . .

So what happened with what's her name? Barbette or whatever? ONce you turn your live into a novel, or even an internet column, you can't leave any loose ends.

eh....i had no idea that 'joe' is that old, i always thought he was youhger, but lisa i'm glad you left him...from what i've gathered, he has always seemed like a goddamn kook to me, and i wish you well in the future.

Although interesting, I felt it was a little vague. I think she should have been more specific in the 2001 entry. But maybe she doesn't really know how she feels about her life with Joe. It seems like she really sees it myopically, even though she says she is mad at herself it seems like she is just trying to make Joe look ridiculous.
