I seriously doubt the average WWII GI in the European Theatre had slept with 25 or even 2.5 European women by the fall of Berlin. That figure sounds fabricated. However, while stationed at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in 1995, when Cuban refugees were fenced in camps by Marines, (not that fraternization with Cuban migrant women was common, but): There was a Cuban woman who for fun and profit would press her bare bottom against the chain-link fence in order to service a Marine who was (mostly) on the other side of the fence. There were many Marines and several women who did this. The real name of the original entrepeneur has been lost to posterity, but because of the pattern left on her by the chain link fence, she has been immortalized as "Waffle Butt".

Not only was the term "juvenile delinquent" coined during WWII on the home front, but many train and bus depots were hang outs for "victory girls", often underage Lolitas catering to GI, sailors and marines. Dads were off to war and mom was working at Convair hammering rivets. True sex revolutions occured in the 1920s and during WWII. Men came home with previously taboo sexual behaviors which was hard for many women to accept such as oral sex. Women here who were 19,20, 21 years old 60 years ago are now at least 80! Many of them have fond but painful memories of the boys they lost as battle casualties.

Hey, it was a throwaway joke... the article's not about the History Channel. Also, far be it for me to advocate for sex slavery, but the article was more on the social effects of the war. I hope I didn't give the impression that I approve of such things, however necessary it might have been at the time. (Read St. Augustine on that. Personally, I'm in favor of decriminalizing prostitution, Amsterdam-style.)

I thought the article was well written, although it is a little depressing for some reason.

Disappointing piece. Contrary to what the author has stated, the history channel has addressed sex during war time (going back before WWII). The military's need of prostitutes has been addressed by the feminist scholar Cynthia Enloe (though she wasn't advocating for this).

Ken, you know better than that--the History Channel already has shown a few shows that tell us about the sexual spree of WWII.
