Reader Feedback on "A History of Single Life"
Interesting perspective. Arranged marraiges seem to have continued in the House of Windsor until Prince Charles married Lady Dianna Spencer. Perhaps that disaster is the last arranged marraige within that dysfunctional family

Bah. A Ph.D is still a serious undertaking. If you're a candidate, be proud of it!

I believe you know something about history; I'm allergic to the Phd thing. I don't think you're being pretentious. I actually think that when folks put PhD candidate, or Dr. or PhD in their info, then they are worried only that no one will recognize that they are qualified on the topic or for the job etc. Protesting too much. I don't live in NY; I live in a world saturated with PhDs. I'd have the same complaint, I guess, if I were one of you and I read descriptions that began 'she is a writer....' etcetera. So, no hard feelings.

Keep the phd thing, and I loved this article. I can think of about 10 people I am going to send this to. In fact first thing tomorrow when I get to work I am sending this to my two favorite co-workers (one ultra-Catholic, the other very liberal) and look forward to a good email discussion.

Well, the PhD candidate thing isn't there to be pretentious... it's to show that I actually know something about history. Besides, New York is full of writers... how many of us are PhD students, too? I'm SPESHUL!
