Reader Feedback on "The New Radicals Issue"
Larry Summers and female musicians aside... well, on the bright side, Nerve apparently does care about women. All of today's radicals are female (I can just tell the bonobos are, okay). Except for that male artist.
Which, imho only calls for a Guerilla Girls interview. -- 01/30 |
"Feel like you've outgrown Tori Amos? Did you find Fiona Apple's comeback album pleasure-free? Rate Bjork's recent work admirable but unlistenable? "
WTF do all of these people have in common? It isn't their music because none of their stuff sounds alike. They all are women, and if you get sick of listening to one woman, go find another woman to listen to. It makes sense because female musicans are in one happy club and are completely interchangable even if their music doesn't sound alike because they all got vaginas and boobies. STFU. --Bh 01/30 |
Larry Summers is a "radical" for sparking discussion? The claim to have sparked discussion is the last in a litany of justifications for putting one's foot in one's mouth--for example, anti-gay Christian activists at my college once defended the "formerly" gay speaker they brought to campus by claiming to have created dialogue. Summers is nowhere near as bad, and testing any hypothesis is a reasonable desire, but Summers' innate difference hypothesis is both conveniently good ol' boy and unoriginal. Fighting the widespread sexual harassment throughout the academy, on the other hand--*that* would've been radical. My guess is that harassment has a lot more to do with the glass ceiling than essentialism does. --nat 01/28 |
I love Khan. He really is everywhere. EVERY company in India uses him as a spokesperson. Good for him, keeping it real. --kgs 01/25 |
