Managing Editor — New York, NY, the award-winning lifestyle, culture, and dating site, is looking for a rising star to be our new managing editor.

About Nerve

The managing editor reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of publishing content. On a day-to-day level, your job is to lead the team that writes and edits our content. On a larger level, it's a chance to  develop the voice of a unique and growing brand.

Our readers are a group of more than a million smart, culturally plugged-in men and women in their twenties and thirties. Our mission is to engage them by producing original, insightful content about their lives, with a particular focus on love, sex, and culture. We like sharp writing, honest interviews, and clever takes on smart culture. We're always looking for new ways to start conversations and produce features that you wouldn't find anywhere else — and we need someone who's excited to take a leadership role in helping us do that.

We're an ambitious and tightly-knit team, always seeking fresher designs, snappier headlines, and innovative feature ideas. We work hard and pull the occasional late night, and then sometimes we break early to raid the boss's liquor cabinet or go see a coworker's Prince cover band.

Who We Want

We're not kidding about the rising-star thing. Maybe you're toiling away at a big media company, and you're ready to make your own mark. Maybe you're a brilliant editor trapped at a publication that doesn’t turn you on, and you think you can do something special at a smart publication that writes about things you and your friends actually care about. If you're one of those things, we also need you to be:

• A strong writer with a lively voice and a limitless supply of creative feature ideas.

• An experienced editor who can evaluate writing and workshop/line-edit it to perfection.

• Someone with an eye for talent and building relationships with writers.

• Someone who takes initiative, hunts down interviews, calls meetings, and sets deadlines. If you need to be micro-managed, this job isn't for you. We need someone who's deeply self-motivated

• Someone with three to five years of experience editing.

Think you're the right person? Convince us:

Send us a resume and cover letter that give us a look into the strange and wonderful world of you. Include some links to things you've written, and examples of features you developed and produced. Throw in anything else you think will impress us. Soho-area sandwich options are welcome.

Send everything to with “Managing Editor” in the subject.
