Thank Jesus, Pubes Are Officially Back!

'Girls,' Lady Gaga & more women are bring back the bush

Maybe it’s TV shows like Girls, The New York Times, or American Apparel’s mannequins, but there are tremors about pubic hair revival and I love it!

A pre-Valentine’s Day window display at American Apparel has mannequins sporting a '70s style bush. The New York store on East Houston Street hit marketing gold with this one. As a fresh topic they didn’t even need to publicize it because the public did it for them. USA Today, Gothamist and Facebook users, just to name a few, ran posts about the overflowing hair. The only thing American Apparel loves more than nostalgic basics is creating a good scandal.

This came right before an episode of Girls, where Gaby Hoffmann's Caroline appeared on screen shirt-cocking. After Lena Dunham's yellow mesh tank top and Adam Driver's S&M-tinged sex, this was the only thing left to shock viewers.

And it seems like celebs are on the full-growth bandwagon too. Gwyneth Paltrow recently told Ellen DeGeneres about having to shave her pubic hair before the premiere of Iron Man 3 because her dress was so sheer. And Cameron Diaz has a whole chapter in her book in "Praise of Pubes."

Lest you think only the married-with-children sect of society are growing out their lady bushes, the 20-somethings are also giving up the wax. Lady Gaga, always on top of a trend, posed nude on the cover of the new issue of Candy magazine baring her whole bramble.

Thank god the embarrassing and painful Brazilian wax era is at an end. In a report supported by UKMedix.com, 1,870 women in the United Kingdom were asked if they style or groom their bikini areas. The results were 49 percent said yes and 51 percent said no. The women polled were between 18 and 30.

I love that there will be options about what is sexy again. Sex-positive options other than painful and expensive waxes. Why did I even start getting Brazilian waxes? Because in the 9th grade, Christina Volpe (not her real name) told me that pubic hair was gross. Christina also had a boyfriend, so she knew about that kind of thing. Maybe I didn’t agree, but I had to get changed in the locker room and decided to rid myself of any ridicule. If this is what women had to do, then I embraced it as a part of maturing into an adult. Thank god I don't care what Christina Volpe thinks anymore!

When I was plodding through my teen years, Sex & the City was at its height and Carrie getting waxed was the standard. Say what you want about Girls, but the blog-able series is showcasing real female bodies in all their natural and varied glory. So ladies, grow a thicket if you desire, a mowed lawn if you prefer, and if you still feel better bald, more power to ya! As for me, I'm voting Bush 2014!
