Stunning Nude Photo Series Captures the Emotional Results of Love and Loss

Tremendous suffering and incredible joy.

New York-based photographer Paul Barbera spends a majority of his time capturing lifestyle and interior images for publications like Vogue Living, Bon Appétit, and Elle Décor. But amongst the beautiful spreads of luxury living sits a stunning passion project of Barbera's, exploring the gentle and simple perspective of love. Love-lost is a thought-provoking series that goes behind closed doors into the lives of women experiencing an array of emotions related to love – joy, loss, angst, and desire.

The series is extremely personal, with each woman photographed in her own home, in her own city. With backdrops of light clutter scattered through bedrooms, viewers get an intimate glance into the life moments normally only seen by a partner. The effect is isolating, haunting, and illicit. Paul feels the mystery of each participant is a key element to the series and honors that by not explaining the where, who, or even the how of each lady's story.
