Stunning Sexy Portraits of Modern Day Burlesque Performers

The beautiful queens of tease.

In the late 1800s, burlesque dancers were known as queens of entertainment for their signature striptease performances, revealing glittery lingerie, body jewelry, and the ever-important nipple tassels. Though traditional burlesque lost popularity in the 1940s, the pre-stripper pole performance art has recently resurfaced in night clubs across the country thanks to mainstream artists like Dita Von Teese and a certain B-list 2010 film starring Christina Aguilera and Cher.

New York City-based photographer Stephen La Marche began transitioning from painting to photographer 11 years ago. He started taking portraits of friends in the entertainment industry, which lead him to an underground world of modern day burlesque performers operating in clubs throughout the city. One portrait session led to another, each with an added layer of creativity from backstage pre-show shots to one starlet dressed in baby blue while ice skating on a lake. Take a look through some of the gorgeous images from La Marche's series Burlesque
