The British Government Is Paying Unemployed Youth To Work In Porn

Just not in front of the camera.

By Christina Chaey

The UK’s Department for Work and Pensions would like more of the country’s forlorn, unemployed youth to have jobs. Its latest idea is to offer its porn industry employers money to hire these youngsters, per DWP head Iain Duncan Smith.

Under the new guidance, porn industry employers will receive £2,275 ($3,747) in wage incentives for full-time hires, and £1,130 ($1,875) for part-time hires between the ages of 18 and 24.

But aspiring porn stars looking for their big break in front of the camera need not apply: These subsidies only apply to hires who work behind the scenes in thoroughly unsexy roles like webcam operators, sound technicians, and producers. “Jobs for sexual services or jobs of a sexual nature,” like sex chat-line operators, mud wrestlers, strippograms, and mud wrestlers, don’t qualify for wage incentives. Nor do “cat fighters”—whatever those are.
