The other day, someone commented that this chair was not nearly large enough to fit two people. And…sigh…I suppose she’s right.
But looking at a chair like the one above — done up by knitwear designer Melanie Porter and obviously meant for one — I can’t help thinking that there’s something to be said for two lovers squeezing into one chair, all limbs and close embraces and crushed laps, especially when the chair in question is done up in cozy cable knits.
Porter’s one-off designs are made using chairs sourced from various auctions and markets. The chairs are stripped back to the frame, reupholstered, and then covered with a series of hand-knitted panels.
You can commission a bespoke piece for yourself, though the fee will undoubtedly be hefty.
