Every once in a while, a restaurant comes along that makes you feel like you might actually rule the world. Sort of like Cheers minus… well, minus pretty much the entire cast sitting at the bar. In other words, Buckshot is the place where I want everyone to know my name.
Buckshot is a fairly new addition to SF’s comfort food scene, but it’s already raised the bar to a whole new level in terms of just how good fried food and beer can taste. Take, for example, the Anchor Steam and chicken-fried bacon combination. Is it totally necessary to batter and fry bacon? As the folks at Buckshot would say, absolutely yes.
And, as if a menu of fried goodies and Southern-style dishes weren’t enough, Buckshot also has a hefty collection of old-school video games and shuffleboard. My own personal heaven? Yes. Yes, it is.
Incidentally, it’s also a perfect spot for a hot date. Snack on fried food, drink a few rounds of beer, play some shuffleboard, and before you know it, you’ll be feeling decadent in all the best ways.
Can’t make it to Buckshot? Never fear — here’s my version of chicken-fried bacon (served best with lots of beer and a game companion):
Chicken Fried Bacon
• 4 slices of bacon
• 1/2 cup flour
• one egg, beaten
Cut each slice of bacon into four pieces, dredge in the flour, dip in the egg, then dredge in the flour again. Heat a skillet with about 1/4" of oil and wait ’til it’s shiny. Add the bacon pieces and fry until golden.
