Christmas is here, and no matter what your plans are for today, I can pretty much guarantee that Glögg will make them even better.

Also known as Glug, Glog, or Gløg (depending on which Nordic country you’re in and how drunk you are), Glügg is a magical holiday drink that involves three boozes, lots of spices, and a whole lot of partying. We’ve made it an annual tradition to spend most of the afternoon brewing up a pot of Glögg, then most of the evening drinking it all. It’s definitely led to more than a few memorable Christmases.

What you need:
• vodka (or the high-proof booze of your choice)
• port
• red wine
• sugar
• mulling spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom seeds, plus raisins)

What to do:
• Mix together equal amounts of vodka, port, and wine in a large pot.
• Add the mulling spices of your choice (optional: tie them in a teabag and let it sink into the mixture).
• Stir in a cup or so of raisins.
• Bring to a boil and add about a cup of sugar. Turn the heat down and let simmer for at least an hour, or until the raisins are plump.

Serve hot and serve often! And remember to take pictures.
