Jina on dapper nerds, Christian Dior, and her hatred for Ayn Rand

Jina on Nerve's style blog

What's your name and what do you do?
My name is Jina and I’m a PhD student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

What are you wearing?
Gold bamboo earrings, 1982 Christian Dior frames, an FCUK cardigan and Loreal True Red.

What are some articles of clothing that you consider essential?
High-waisted micro minis are definitely a staple, as are voluminous tops. I really enjoy nautical items, geometric patterns, and primary colors. My wardrobe is a mix of stuff I bought from thrift and vintage stores and the internet.

If you're sizing up a guy, what are some outfit details that you really like?
I’m really into the dapper nerd look — especially sculptural eyeglass frames, fitted button downs, and clean lines. Think Kraftwerk circa 1978 — or even Klau Nomi.

What are some things that are absolute dealbreakers?
Since I live in the Midwest, the functional brown boot is pretty much an epidemic — omnipresent and unacceptable. I also cannot handle sandals or any sort of shoe with foot windows.

If you were going out, trying to get laid, what would you wear?
I generally just wear whatever I think is fly. Maybe I would add some gold accents.

Why do you think men are attracted to you?
Perhaps they like voluminous hair and voluminous glasses. I definitely do.

If you'd gone home with a guy, what would make you turn around and leave when you got to his apartment?
Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead.

Hmmm

Why do people think that looking/dressing like this is attractive? There's a difference between being eclectic and frumpy.

I LOLed through this interview. thank you for saying "voluminous" three times and calling out Ayn Rand. I don't know what Kraftwerk means but I think I agree with you.

Definately not. It's because you have tits and a vagina.

Anyone who recognizes the evil of Ayn Rand can't be all bad, however, to recognize this evil one has to read (and therefore possess) her books.

I'll bet $50 Jina never read the Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged or Anthem, but was told by someone it's "bad". And Kraftwerk was fine back in the day, but is not listenable now.

The Fountainhead could only be worse if Stephenie Meyer wrote it.

We the Living is a great book, otherwise Ayn Rand is awful.
