It’s been freezing in California lately — the kind of freezing that makes me want to curl up with a blanket and a boy, doing nothing but cuddling and watching TV all night long. Which is exactly what I did last night. And it was absolutely perfect, in no small part thanks to a little addition of Elvis Costello into our evening.
If you haven’t heard of/seen/obsessively rewatched Spectacle, you’re seriously missing out on one of the best television tributes to music out there. Elvis Costello hosts what’s dubbed as "talk and roll" — chatting with gods of rock and throwing in some live performance — and the result is captivating: Costello is charming and eloquent, and he somehow delineates music and its icons in a whole new, refreshing way.
It made for an excellent cheap, cozy date — one that we might just have to recreate next week, too.
