This is Marisol. She hates parasols, which is kind of a shame. She also hates hats, though that’s less of a problem, since that aversion led her to buy these awesome, gold headphones. Seemingly inspired by Mr. T, they’re hefty enough to do double-duty as ear warmers, and so make winter hats unnecessary.
Marisol’s hatred for certain accessories, however, belies her endearing personality. I ran into her at the Bowery Whole Foods in Manhattan on a very sweet errand: she was there to pick up flowers for her roommate, whom she planned to surprise the next morning with a Dean & Deluca sticky bun for her birthday. "I want her to feel like a princess when she wakes up," she said.
Marisol bought her thuggishly cool, ear-warming headphones at Urban Outfitters last year as a Christmas present for herself after seeing a photo of them in The Sartorialist, a fashion blog. (The serendipity of finding an item she liked on a blog, only to be featured on another blog wearing it is not lost on Marisol. But she hates being photographed even more than she hates umbrellas, which might explain her half-smile above.)
The headphones added a metallic, geometrical touch to Marisol’s slouchy leather and lace get-up. She scored the jacket at Shareen Vintage in Chelsea, where she works part time. The black skirt, which she layered over fluffy black bloomers, is by Romeo and Juliet Couture.
