Music to My Ears

Last night officially kicked off Noisepop in San Francisco — a city-wide festival that celebrates all things independent music, with a lineup of shows that are truly not to be missed. The festivities began with a packed-to-the-brim party at Bender’s Bar, where all anyone could talk about was who plays tomorrow, how to get into Friday’s shows, or how Yoko Ono would fare at The Fox that very night. Needless to say, if you’re a huge independent music nerd like myself, then Noisepop is like a little slice of out-and-about paradise.

I’ve got my schedule all worked out already, starting with The Dodos on Thursday at the Palace of Fine Arts (a gorgeous venue with or without a band playing, and, incidentally, where I made out with my guy for the very first time). Friday’s all about the dance party at the Rickshaw Stop — specifically, Tempo No Tempo, some famously strong drinks, and whole lot of booty shaking. And Saturday I’ve already told you about: the Magnetic Fields at The Fox.

But if you’re in desperate need of an indie music fix and not anywhere near Noisepop, check out the new records from these three fantastic bands. They’re guaranteed to put you in the mood:

The Dodos: $13, InSound

Tempo No Tempo: $10, Tempo No Tempo

The Magnetic Fields: $10, Nonesuch
