What’s the Most Popular Profession in Porn?

Using big data to identify porn's biggest trends.

We all think we know what the most popular types of porn are. Teens, blondes, and blowjobs, we might conjecture. But what, under the comfortable shade of night and the dim glow of a laptop screen, do we actually search for? The team at Sexualitics, researchers who look to provide the public with a quantitative analysis of online pornography, put together a new interactive search tool, Porngram, to answer those big porn questions.

Porngram is exactly like Google's Ngram viewer, but instead of Anne of Green Gables and Little House on the Prairie comparisons, you can look at the statistical popularity of titfucking vs. anal over the ages. Porngram draws from around 800,000 videos hosted on the porn site Xhamster between 2007 and 2013 to identify the popularity of keywords throughout the porn catalogue. Nerve looked into the history of some of the most common porn professions to find out who comes out on top.

The nurses will always dominate porn professional tropes. Our theory: we all like to be taken care of.

The cable guy is the most common porn stereotype, but let's face it, he has been practically nonexistent in the last five years.

Surgeons, though entirely hot in real life, haven't been able to stitch up a good porn presence. Ever.

Bosses weren't too popular during the thick of the recession, but they're making a comeback. Nothing like a good secretary/boss power dynamic.

Sorry, Sis, you're no competition for Mom. And, Dad, you've never really been popular.

"Mom" has seen a steady decline, but since 2011, "MILF" has been taking off.

And, just for good measure, an analysis what we like to call mammary glands in porn. I thought for sure "jugs" would be a winner.
