31. Pi (1998)
Sure, Darren Aronofsky's films can be humorless, pretentious, and downright ridiculous. (Seriously. Watch Black Swan again.) But even those less enamored of his oeuvre have to admire the audacity of his breakthrough feature about a math genius dodging Hasidic Jews, Wall Street weasels, and his own impending madness. — A.O.
32. Pink Flamingos (1972)
Predating punk rock, the gay-rights movement, and the mainstreaming of bad taste, John Waters and his Dreamland Players celebrated extreme fashion, outré culture, and the comedy of shock long before they were trendy. And while Hairspray may be Waters' most beloved creation, Pink Flamingos remains his most notorious, thanks to cheerful scenes of depravity (like Divine's notorious shit-eating grin) that still elicit gasps in a post-Human Centipede world. — A.O.
33. Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959)
Ed Wood, Jr.'s masterpiece received a Golden Turkey as the worst film ever made, but that's not why it's on this list. Plenty of drive-in (and mainstream) movies of the '50s had silly dialogue and wooden acting, but Wood's consistently cracked vision, proto-goth aesthetic and all-star ensemble (including Vampira, Tor Johnson, and Bela Lugosi) make Plan 9 genuinely entertaining, while the failed director's can-do optimism in the face of insurmountable odds serves as an inspiration (and cautionary tale) for indie filmmakers everywhere. — A.O.
34. Re-Animator (1985)
Stuart Gordon's screwball H. P. Lovecraft adaptation was one of the first "video nasties." You just had to be sure to tell your friends to get the "unrated" edition, or else they'd miss the scene involving a trussed-up naked woman and a living severed head, which reportedly inspired the screenwriter to call the director in the dead of night and yell, "I've just written my first visual pun!" Testament to its lasting late-night appeal, Kevin Spacey gives it a stoned shout-out in American Beauty. — P.N.
35. Repo Man (1984)
In the old days, indie films weren't just low-budget versions of Hollywood product with more sex, drugs, and cursing. Instead, they were often singular, inexplicable one-offs like Alex Cox's mash-up of punk rock, L.A. noir, Gen-X malaise, and sci-fi conspiracy theories involving radioactive Chevy Malibus. Back then, the life of a repo man was always intense. — A.O.
36. Reservoir Dogs (1992)
Back before Quentin Tarantino ruled the world, he was just another guy at the Sundance Film Festival with a movie under his arm. It turned out to be the genre movie of the year, an accomplishment that did not go fully appreciated in that high-minded environment. Tarantino had to wait until his movie went viral on videocassette to see it begin to achieve what he had been put on Earth to do: kick-start the American independent film movement by proving that indie movies could be fun. — P.N.
37. The Road Warrior (1981)
Like the man who played him, Max Rockatansky is an angry, troubled dude from Australia. And while it's hard to understand why a movie star as rich and handsome as Mel Gibson is so full of hate and bile, it's easy to sympathize with Mad Max. After seeing his loved ones cut down by punks in a world gone to hell, the former cop just wants to wear a bad-ass leather jumpsuit and roam the wasteland with his faithful dog in a tricked-out muscle car. But then more damn punks show up, resulting in the tightest, coolest action film of all time. — A.O.
38. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Catchy tunes aside, it's hard to fathom why someone would finance a cinematic adaptation of a bizarro British musical about intergalactic sex fiends in the first place. But for whatever reason, the decision paid off, spawning one of the most successful midnight movies of all time, as well as a weekly rite-of-passage safe haven for sweet transvestites and other misfit toys around the world. — A.O.
39. Sisters (1973)
Brian De Palma's fifth feature film was his first real horror movie, and you could almost hear the universe clicking into place. With its bloody killings and off-the-wall humor (especially in the opening sequence), combined with Bernard Herrmann's old-timey yet zingy score, it sums up both the early-'70s cult audience's lust for something harshly new and their nostalgic taste for something that felt "old." — P.N.
40. Slacker (1991)
Dazed and Confused, Richard Linklater's patchouli-soaked ode to summer, stoners, and '76, is a beloved cult classic in its own right. But the director's debut, a plotless love letter to his beloved Austin, is a touchstone for eccentrics of every generation. — A.O.

Commentarium (501 Comments)
Just because a film has a devoted fan-base doesn't make it a cult film. If that were true, Twilight would be one of the most successful cult-films of all time. *shudders*
A movie is considered "cult" because of a myriad of different factors, but I think the most important one is that is receives little attention critically or commercially upon initial release, but then, with time, gains more and more success, mostly due to that devoted, ever-growing fan base.
Both Harry Potter (all 8 of them) and Wizard of Oz were instant successes.
Thanks Alex, (means the greatest and you seem to fit that well! ) .. I am getting a real education on this site. What a great explanation my friend. I did enjoy Oz and Potter, quite a lot, but you're right, they are not CULT classics with your definition. Thanks for that intelligent brilliant answer :) <3
Alex or Alexander means "Protector of Men" actually. You may be confusing it with the title Alexander the Great who was both great and a protector of men. :p
I've seen all but 3 of these movies. And I'm going to find them, NOW!
Not "A Boy and His Dog"?
I would've chosen Wild at Heart - watchable many times - over Eraserhead - difficult to endure even once, as the Lynch contribution. Another deserving addition is 'Savages', a 1972 Merchant-Ivory production, which could serve as a profound metaphor for the thin veneer that separates 'civilized' societies from the uncivilized, or just an entertaining and re-watchable flick. Unfortunately it wasn't widely distributed in the States.
I agree. I quite like Wild At Heart whereas Eraserhead was the biggest load of self-indulgent unwatchable tripe I've ever had the misfortune to witness. It's one of those films that cultists will claim you "just don't get it" if you claim to hate it, but the truth is it really is just crap.
you need an imagination to enjoy movies like Eraserhead, if youre a self inflated critic of the big screen its doubtful you have one bc most movies, especially in recent years, take all of the imagination out of the film by spoon feeding you what you need to know. this is a film for the surrealists and the morbid at heart. more for the appreciators of art rather than the consumers of stories. are u starting to get what u dont get yet? if not, good, we dont want you in our club. HA!
its PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, not planeE 9 from outer space.
trolololol.
Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed the "Plane 9" error...
Really enjoyed your list of cult films. A great place to purchase cult films on DVD or blu-ray is BoulevardMovies.com - they have a "cult favorites" section located here:
http://www.boulevardmovies.com/Cult-Favorites-p-1-c-252.html
This is a good, tight selection of films. And it´s really funny to follow the comments (it´s amazing to see how many people go straight to their own rants without reading the previous ones: discussion is out of the question, if you only want to be heard, not hearing the rest...). Anyway, I´d like to add Motorama (Barry Shils, 1991), a small, awesome film.
I went though the entire list just so make sure "Withnail and I" made it. Amazing film! Very happy because of this.
thought it wasn't gonna be on there. then it was #50. lol.
Jacob's Ladder isn't even in the honorable mention??
And Troll 2 should be at LEAST top 10, camaaan
Why not Excalibur? Mirren, Stewart, Bryne, a young Neeson.
I second that nomination!
Nicol Williams is pure win, too.
yeah wtf, THE ROOM.....
you know nothing nerve, if you dont know THE ROOM
The Brood, Heathers and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure are on the list but no place for Vanishing Point, Zabriskie Point, Blow Up, Replusion, Blue Velvet or Electra Glide in Blue? Someone obviously doesn't know what they're talking about.
Vanishing Point should definitely be in there.
:¬}
I agree with Torq's entire list and I also agree with his list of three films to question. To me The Brood was simply forerunner splatter, and Heathers, while featuring great performances by Ryder and Slater, did not meet criteria of longevity and most important of all...midnight showings. On top of that it was tacked together in an inexplicable edit. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure was great, but IMO another requirment for ""cult" status would be esoteric. Any of Torq's list could replace any of these three and be a better list, again, IMO.
EDWARD SCISSORHANDS?
I know! Napoleon Dynamite deserves a place there too.
Total Recall?
Wizards?
Heavy Metal?
Willow?
Big Trouble Little China?
V for Vendetta?
Party Monster?
THANK YOU someone else gets it! big trouble in little china and willow DEFINITELY deserve to be on that list
this sucks deeply
I got 3! This list would have been completely different if they'd only polled black people. Scarface would have been at the top off the list lol!
Moviedrome, Dellamore Dellamorte, They Live, Hardware, Braindead, El Topo, Fantastic Planet, Superfly, The Thief of Bagdad, La Haine, Assault on Precinct 13 (original, soundtrack alone makes it worthy of being on the list)
*Videodrome not Moviedrome lolz. Ate way too much MSG tonight
LONG LIVE THE NEW FLESH!
Blade Runner is a goddamn runner-up? Are you joking? That film is the epitome of a cult classic: got little to no recognition and mixed reviews upon initial release, but over the years has gained such a following and so much scrutiny that it is now considered one of the greatest films of all time.
Other than that, your list was pretty comprehensive.
Brazil and 1984 are two totally different stories :-/
This list is awful... Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill should both be on here.
And Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World should most definitely be on here
that Evil Dead picture is actually Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn. not to be picky but its important to me.
I noticed that, too. I was going to comment on it if nobody else did.
I would add Ghost World, The Wicker Man and Trainspotting
The Dude Abides :)
Gummo!
Serenity should be on the list....
Serenity/Firefly. Yep, I second this.
Where is Boondock Saints????
^^My thoughts exactly!
Some woman forced me to watch Boondock Saints one night. And I was like ... what the fuck?
Boondock Saints is in the same league as Fight Club. It's not real cult film, but a movie the mainstream audience grabs onto and proclaims it cult without any real knowledge of cult film.
who the hell made you an expert on cult films?
@ Some guy: Completely agreed. People watch a multi-million dollar movie and claim it's a 'cult' film, when they have no idea what the Fuck they're talking about. 'The Toxic Avenger' on the other hand, is a perfect example of the 'cult film'... A movie not many watch, but those who do obsess and speak of it as a treasure; almost as if it's a secret merely known amongst the few.
@hooplah: The Boondock Saints was not a mainstream movie. It played on 5 screens for 1 week, a whopping total of 30+ thousand dollars, and took just under 15 million to make. The critics completely bashed this movie and said it was horrible. Here is the link to rotten tomatoes. They gave it a whopping, wait for it, 17%. rottentomatoes.com/m/boondock_saints/ It is mos def a cult film and belongs in the top 20 of this list. I am not saying you don't know movies, but what exactly is your definition of a cult film? If it costs less than 5 dollars to make, it's a cult film?
No princess bride?
Only page 2 of the comments will load so apologies if I'm not the first to say this .... Where the F**K is Pulp Fiction?!
only one from each director
>Reservoir Dogs
What about The Crow
What about The Crow?
What about Waterworld! not even a runner-up?
Waterworld???? Reaaally?
I know its in the runner ups, but spinal tap should be in the list.
How is The Breakfast Club not on the list?? And I agree that Pulp Fiction ought to be too!
Definitely forgot Kids, and Gummo
They forgot Bully too. None of this documentary junk that everyone is throwing a hissy fit about.
To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar
Oh gosh, I totally agree. Let's throw in Priscilla Queen of the Desert while we're at it.
"Rivers Edge" is a must on any list like this good work, tho
worrrd.
Dr Strangelove is way better than A Clockwork Orange
^
agreed!
omg yes..clockwork is so bad..
You are stupid.
The Princess Bride???
- "MLT Mutton Lettuce and Tomato"
- "I am the brute squad?
- "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die"
- "As you wish"
The Princess Bride was the first one I noticed missing!!! Then I was like where the hell is The Goonies!!!
And then there's Blues Brothers!!
one of the best musical films ever!
Barton Fink? The Shining? Titanic?
Too popular?
Titanic ... wtf? Do you know what cult means *in the context of films*
Tremors needs be on list.
YES! Tremors was awesomely horrible and I loved it!
Where is Willow? Dark Crystal? Legend?
What about Primer, or Ink?? These are great films, (better than a lot that are on this list). They may be lesser known, but surely that is one of the parameters of being one of the greatest 'cult' movies of all time.
Yes! Where is Primer??
Synopsis - Best time travel movie made to-date.
so great
thought it was one film per director... didn't gilliam direct brazil AND the holy grail? not saying theyre not both great movies, but rules are rules
Terry Jones directed HG. For the most part, anyway
For whatever reason, I HATE Clerks. I am on-board with most of these choices, but that movie blows.
How many of you've seen Cory McAbee's THE AMERICAN ASTRONAUT? I doubt it's even listed. It's THE MOST CULT MOVIE. AND YOU SHOULD SEE IT.
WOW that sucked. The Princess Bride. and BOONDOCK SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAVE YOU NO SHAME????
Where is Shaun of the Dead, that typifies Cult Movies. Just as a response to people posting, Boondock Saints is a terrible overrated movie (but is cult so deserved to be on this list) and Pulp Fiction is the exact opposite of Cult.
Some of these are great but I really don't think the author understands the meaning of a cult movie.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/odysseybookstore/m.html
Where the deuce is "Super Troopers"?
Shame on you for not including UHF on this list. It should have been in the top 10. Taxi Driver? That's not a cult film. That's a mainstream success.
Big Trouble In Little China
Buckaroo Banzai
Ice Pirates
Heavy Metal
Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas
Flash Gordon
Actually, you should have went with top 100, too many great ones were left out.
Great list though
Uhh, The Room!
BINGO!!!! That was my first thought after this. Where is my precious 'the room' movie?
I usually take these movie lists for fun and really not seriously at all. For 3 main reasons: 1. We obviously can't assume that the person who created this list has seen every single movie ever made. 2. The rules by which the movies are picked are usually not followed correctly or misinterpreted. 3. At the end of the day it's just someone's opinion.
Anyway, that being said, Here's what I would add to and replace from this list if were going by definition of "cult classic" since the writer followed this definition loosely as evidence by the inclusion of Fight Club and Pewee so will I. Again this is not an opinion of which movie is better this is me following the rules of "cult classic"...
Blade Runner instead of Fight Club
Princess Bride, Last Unicorn or Time Bandits instead of PeeWee
Movies with same director:
Mullholland Drive instead of EH
Requiem instead of Pi
Happiness instead of WTTDH
Eyes Wide Shut instead of CW
Now if the definition is movies that motivated you to join a cult after watching then I guess it's definitely widely open to interpretation.
Great to see Brazil on this list! A movie everyone should see!
www.indiegogo.com/son
this could be one of those films. I'm excited for this movie!
I like Breathless Movie. Interesting love story :) http://www.smokersworld.info/
I'd like to see something like Tetsuo: The Iron Man or Happiness of the Katakuris on there. Pretty good list overall, though.
I was just taking a breather from writing on my Real Estate Blog and found this. My boyfriend and I spend sooo much time watching movies, and cult movies are our absolute favorite.
I don't believe it ! Pulp Fiction didn't make it???
You say wow, I say Yawn !!
No Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas? Really? :l
You'd think Train Spotting would be on here!
KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE.........HeL---LLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Just sayin': that picture is from Evil Dead II (1987).
The sixth sense?
This list is horrible
What about The Room?!
Wait, where's The Room?
Where are Trainspotting, Labyrinth, The Breakfast Club, the Harry Potter films, Princess Bride, or Lord of the Rings?
These are all very cultish films, and not even runners up? Lame.
Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings are the complete opposite from cult films lol
my first thoughts exactly. Trainspotting, The Breakfast Club and The Nightmare Before Christmas! These are all cult classics! and should be pretty high up here!
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
had totally forgotten about this movie! Definitely deserved to be on the list... and flash gordon, an all time cult fav
Starship Trooper. But seriously, where the hell is Boondock Saints. A movie that the writer sold for 30k because he was so unknown, did terrible in theater, and blew up once it got to DVD? The epitome of cult in our day and age.
NO LOST BOYS?????????
I so agree with you! I can't believe it wasn't on the list
NO DARK KNIGHT ??????
House of 1000 Corpses and Reefer Madness the Musical.
House of 1000 Corpses and Reefer Madness the Musical.
From Dusk Till' Dawn?
"BAD BOY BUBBY"
Damn right! "Well, if that's all there is we're fucked"
i was scared withnail and i was not going to show up. best for last.
Exactly the same, I was scanning through, seeing pretty good choices (great to see the Dude at No2) and getting my comment ready in my head - 'How could you leave out Withnail, were you only going for American movies blah blah blah' and then there it was at the end. Not a bad list, seen most of them!
Well, no. Brazil is the acid test for those who mistake pretension for brilliance, as is Clerks. The double-fail robs the article of any credibility.
This list is awful. Fuckin awful.
Falling down should be here.
Why is taxi driver the only film to not have a year. The lord of the rings, Harry potter and titanic, WTF are these people on. Don't know all the films on the list but though many others should be on there.
what about the goonies or run ronnie run?
I understand you only have 50 spots, but no Lost Boys! Really!
Great List, a lot of movies on there that usually go unrecognized
I'd love to see Party Monster on there though
Boiler room.... Biggest cult following for salesman and hustlers
What? No Blade Runner? American Psycho? Eyes Wide Shut?
I can't be bothered to read them all - is there any Shatner
I immediately thought of Green Street Hooligans, but I am not sure if that would be considered cult or not.
Suburbia. Bitches.
amen
i think C'est arrivé près de chez vous (man bites dog) should make this list too
So cult movies are the ones that are borderline idiotic. Got it.
Where's the Blues Brothers??
Seems like half the people commenting just want to know why their favorite movie isn't on this list. The other half want justification for liking certain movies or credit for being cool enough to watch certain movies which weren't on the list but none the less want internet strangers to know how cool they are. It's not your list so who cares what movies made it or didn't. Also, just a because a movie was directed by Tarantino does not instantly make it cult classic, jeez, it doesn't even necessarily mean the movie was good. Have some discretion people... Kill Bill? Wasn't that just some Hollywood, overly produced trilogy, being weird and strange for the purpose of being percieved as "cult" and off beat but made for the purpose of money. I wonder what the ticket and DVD sales of that movie was.... Go make you own list.
HOW IS THE BLUES BROTHERS NOT ON THIS LIST?!?!?!? THAT'S A HUGE CULT MOVIE!!!!
Wet. Hot. American. Summer.
Not ever subjective list can be perfect though
It was a runner up. I was a fool to have commented. Redacted
Am I the only one who thinks Repo! The Genetic Opera should be on this list?
Good list. One thing though, fuck you Darren Aronofsky and Black Swan are awesome.
absolutely, completely agree with you on that
Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon must be added to this list!
What about requiem for a dream??!!
wtf, where is American Psycho?
Glad to see Fight Club and Office Space but what about The Professional (with Jean Reno), Heat or Ong Bak?
...not even a single mention on the list or in the comments for Star Wars, just because the cult is now a major pop culture majority doesn't take away from the fact that it's fan base is practically a religion
Love it...Love all of these!
party monster should defs be on the list
wow amazing .
nice to see this post... i always love to search Pakistani Showbiz and Fashion news.
good List, gonna download lots of these, My only suggestion....... Star Wars?
I thought i'd see pulp fiction
Any movie that has a specific unusual interest, an immovable following, and the ability to conjure obsession is a "Cult Film" in my opinion. I don't care how terribly or how well it did in the box office.
Where the fuck is Tron?!
Un Chien Andalou would have been a nice addition.
Heavy Metal was a major cult film of the 80's, A Boy and His Dog is a strange wonderful movie from the 70's. I would have chosen The Phantom of The Paradise over sisters for a Brian Depalma film and I think Rushmore shines more than Bottlerocket for Wes Anderson.
I like the list. I would've has "Breaker Breaker" starring Chuck Norris on it.
I got creeped out as a kid when I saw The Birds
The worst movie ever made. SO much fun to watch. You HAVE to see this movie to believe it. (someone's comment on Netflix about Troll 2) sounds interesting :)
What about Pulp Fiction?
This is absolutely a great list. Over 1000 items best movies of all time you must watch and must see here. http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/the-best-movies-of-all-time
No Godfather? No Pulp Fiction? No City of God? What the hell is this? Thanks god Fight Club and Lebowski is in...
Edward Scissor Hands
Napoleon Dynamite
Tremors
The Breakfast Club
Sweeney Todd
Pulp Fiction
The Birds
The Sixth Sense
The Princess Bride
ALL great cult films!!:( How could this person leave out some of the most dearly beloved films of all times??
wow! this is a first--a list of movies where i can't argue about a single inclusion. sure, some of your honorable mentions would be on my list instead of some of yours, but i cannot really disagree with any of your choices...and, as anyone who knows me will tell you, last happened about, oh, the middle of last century. when i was born. and couldn't talk.
What about Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Dumb and Dumber?
Where are any of my movies?
Dark Star!!
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas should most definitely be on this list!
cult movies means there is a cult type following. Like they worship the movie. Vampire movies, science fiction like star trek, gross out films... You know films that people sit around discussing the deeper meaning of or quote in life or mould their lives after...
Gotta have the Boondock Saints on there! :-) That movie was pretty much panned by the critics, but gained such a following that someone put up the $$$ for a sequel! Just mindless fun that audiences caught on to more than critics. www.freddysopenmind.blogspot.com
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261053588740?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p...
dont these things normally start at 50 and work back to 1?... seems a better way to do it
Why is Friday pictured, but not listed?
So, I may be wrong, but the image you have for SWEET SWEETBACK seems wrong. I think that picture is from the movie GANJA AND HESS, because the guy looks like Duane Jones (of G&H and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD fame). Anyone know?
Jacob
I write movie reviews at www.pannedreview.com
where is The Room?!
Sunset Boulevard
Solid list -- just wish you could have made room for Labyrinth and Mr. Boogedy or Bride of Boogedy [=
really? no Killer Klowns?
this list is great and i think i would get along well with whoever made this list.
few additions of my own,
run, lola, run
ong bak
wassup rockers
the chum scrubber
revolver
kids
gummo
elephant
bully
and i do think trainspotting should have been on the list
That's completely and utterly mainstream, couldn't be more so!
Breakfast Club?!? MAINSTREAM along with Sixth Sense...
Not a bad list. Some of my favorites are on here. There could probably be a sub-genre of great '70s exploitation films, in which case ZOMBIES VS. STRIPPERS would wind up on that list. The film was just released from Full Moon Productions, and it certainly delivers on its title. Great sense of humor as it pokes fun at the Zombie and Stripper films. Take a look at their Facebook Page.
I seen where some guy said that fightclub isn't a cult film. I here more fightclub quotes than any other movie. Not to mention if you yell whats the first rule of fightclub everyone around you is going to say you do not talk about fightclub. Hell I live the teachings of Tyler Durden. "You had to give it to him: he had a plan. And it started to make sense, in a Tyler sort of way. No fear. No distractions. The ability to let that which does not matter truly slide." Even though this quote wasn't Tylers I have let stupid things slide. Stupid things that pissed me off I just let it go. I'm a much happier person thanks to this movie. To me it qualifies as a cult film just on that case.
I think Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? is a classic. It should be here!
And Delicatessen?
The Miracle Mile?
Excellent list- though I would have selected "Bride of the Monster" before "Plan 9"- I mean, Lugosi wrestling with a rubber octopus, c'mon- and "Kiss Me Deadly" is an excellent noir until it turns into sci-fi at the end.
What, no mention of Doom Generation?
Also, the image attached to Evil Dead is actually from Evil Dead 2. ^.^
Pulp Fiction is top ten... come on.
When I see lists like this, I usually shake my head and dismiss the findings as myopic and pretentious. This one is different. This is well thought out and straight to the point. All the films listed belong here. You numbered the films but didn't let that number serve as a rating and I am duly impressed. I'd add Apocalypse Now and Pandora's Box, but that's just me. First rate job!
WHAT ! WHERE IS THE DARK KNIGHT RISES!
:) only kidding!
Uh, number 43 doesn't have a date on it.
Also, far too many films from the 70s... perhaps one of the worst film decades ever.
More needed from the 1930s... perhaps one of the all-time greatest cut film decades one can imagine.
Dark City
eXistenZ
And what about Kids? - The tail of
Great list. Reading all the comments was a complete waste of time though. Just people mindlessly bitching about movies missing from the list. It's a list comprised of 50 movies; it is not possible to please everyone. Pulp Fiction and The Breakfast Club are not cult films. Here's a cult film: Blood Freak, a flick about a guy who becomes addicted to pot, eats some contaminated turkey meat and turns into a gobbling turkey-headed killer with an unquenchable taste for junkie blood. THAT is a cult film. Fuck Spinal Tap, fuck Princess Bride, and fuck Rob Reiner.
No films by Ralph Bakshi? Blasphemy!
Other than that, great list.
you forgot Primer...and if you haven't seen it, you should....
Love your list. I would say "Mr. Frost" with Jeff Goldblum, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Coffey (Pam Grier), Little Miss Sunshine, La Dolce Vita, Belly,
Great list! Yes, I have some of my own suggestions, too.
'Z', The Story of O, Apocalypto, Dogma, China Blue, The Scream, 12 Monkies, The Fifth Element, Lolita, Arlington Road, The Third Man and American Psycho. I realize that many of these were lame stream studio movies, but still acquired a cult status in my humble opinion. I enjoyed reading others' comments and seeing others' opinions. It's not whining, well - ok, some of it's whining, but lots of suggestions that I'm going to have to check out.
next time do a top50 cult list by genre that would work better. and start with horor. Henry, Eaten Alive, house of 1000 corpses, peeping tom, children shouldnt play with dead things, attack of the killer tomatos, halloween...... just a few sugestions. good job with Night of the living dead and Texas Chainsaw though. I would have had no respect for you had you forgotten them.
Polyester
Freaked!
Transylvania-6500
Clue
Must add Jesus Christ Vampire Slayer and Manos: The Hands of Fate!
