And on the Eighth Day, He Made the Crazy People 11/14/2006 1:03:00 PM
The world's first Creationist museum will be opening soon. According to the museum, the world is 6,000 years old and the Grand Canyon was created in a few months during Noah's flood. And then there's this quote from the museum's designer, Patrick Marsh: "There are no such things [as primitive humans]. Humans are basically as you see them today. Those skeletons they've found, what's the word? ... they could have been deformed, diseased or something. I've seen people like that running round the streets of New York."
He's right, uber-conservative Christians. There are cavemen in New York City, and they are dangerous and they are everywhere. The only way to avoid them is by never coming here. Never. Cord Jefferson

From Our Inbox: The Comfort of Dating in 8th Grade 11/14/2006 9:00:00 AM
Hi Editors,
Back in the 8th grade when you a crush the courting ritual was usually masked under the parent friendly, pressure free group scenario. Three guys...three girls all going out to have a good time. Now we are 29 and know it's not exactly easy to meet someone dateable in a city like New York, the land were; "all the good one's are taken" but still, everyone seems to be single.
LetsMeetOut.com is a New York based site for those are looking to ease into a possible dating situation. Much like the comfort of dating in the 8th grade, it's really about a group thing. The site has individual members who are asked to set up groups (like-minded friends). These groups are then recommended to other groups on the sites and encouraged to meet out. It really takes the creepy factor out of meeting strangers online as well as the pressure of making a love connection.

Tabloid Fodder: Britney Update 11/13/2006 3:38:00 PM
People Britney wore a blond bob wig on Letterman. The next day she was "chirpy" and, according to a bartender, "busting out of her dress" at Baldoria restaurant. She spent $300 at the Gap and went ice skating at Rockefeller Center. People wins the prize for catching the divorce scoop before going to press.

second baby, her boobs are really sagging." She had set aside all of February for the surgery and recovery but since she's breast feeding, she may have to wait.
Us Weekly Us wonders, "Will Spears and Federline ever get past the drama?" The magazine’s psychiatrist recommends that Britney and Kevin "own up to how they contribute to the problem" so they can compromise.
Life & Style Britney is "thin but sad!" According to Life&Style's image consultant, Britney's new hairstyle says "'I'm the star'…She wants to be idolized
again."

When you think of the Bee Gees, you might think of Saturday Night Fever. But we respect you, Scanner reader, and we'd like to think that you know better. Prior to 1970, the Bee Gees were kind of amazing, as captured by this new boxed set from Rhino Records. (You can listen to clips here. ) We really don't want to part with our free copy. But we'll give it to the first reader who emails us their name, their mailing address, and a legitimate reason why the pre-70s Bee Gees were awesome. Update: we have a winner! Her reason: "I was conceived to pre-1970s Bee Gees music." Thanks to everyone who responded!

Crush of the Week: Nancy Pelosi 11/13/2006 9:00:00 AM
Starting in January, Nancy Pelosi will be third in line for the presidency. That makes her officially, not in the Oprah sense the most powerful woman in US history. And her timing couldn't be better. Pelosi is epitome of both family values (she has five children, and waited til the last one graduated high school to run for office) and progressive vision (she supports gay rights, reproductive rights and national health care). Early in her career, San Francisco liberals denounced her as being too moderate; recently, right-wing pundits have vilified her for being too liberal. But she's always stood her ground firmly and with dignity. We were entirely won over by her first press conference; after Bush sputtered out an introduction ("As the father of two young ladies, I think it’s an important"), Pelosi addressed the cameras with stunning poise, managing to be articulate and gracious while essentially telling the President to bring it on. And for that, she is our Crush of the Week. Gwynne Watkins

This Just In: Nancy Reagan, Blowjob Queen? 11/10/2006 4:00:00 PM
We were recently at a dinner party and Nancy Reagan's sexual prowess was referred to in so casual a manner the speaker clearly thought everyone knew about it. We did not. But apparently, Kitty Kelley's biography says Nancy Reagan "was renowned in Hollywood for performing oral sex." And "not only in the evening but in offices. [T]hat was one of the reasons that she was very popular on the MGM lot." Hearing this made us question our most fundamental instincts about what famous people would be best in bed.
