After a dozen people in ten different states were struck with salmonella, a massive recall on turkey burgers — ostensibly one of the healthier burger choices out there — is underway.

A full 55,000 pounds of Jennie-O Turkey Store® All Natural Turkey Burgers have been pulled from shelves after the outbreak, which officials think may represent a particularly virulent strain of salmonella, normally just your everyday source of food poisoning. From the statement:

The outbreak strain of Salmonella Hadar is resistant to many commonly prescribed antibiotics, which can increase the risk of hospitalization or possible treatment failure in infected individuals.

Yes, you read that right. Not only might your beloved turkey burgers give you salmonella, they might give you futuristic, drug-resistant, untreatable salmonella. Between this and all those veggie-burger toxins, is nothing sacred anymore?
