Yes, it's true: someday in the not-too-distant future, we could all be driving around in cars powered by sunshine! Such are the claims of Massachusetts company Joule Unlimited, which says it has developed an organism capable of generating diesel fuel or ethanol when given access to just water, sun, and CO2. Yowza!

Ok, so there are a few (re: a lot) of technical things to work out before anyone gets too excited, and the scientific community remains skeptical, but this does have the potential to be major. "If we're half right, this revolutionizes the world's largest industry, which is the oil and gas industry," said the company's CEO. "And if we're right, there's no reason why this technology can't change the world."
