Oldest object in the universe captured by Hubble Space Telescope.

[Insert Abe Vigoda joke here.]

But seriously, folks: DiscoveryNews is reporting that the Hubble Space Telescope has found an "astronomical object" that is calculated to be the universe's oldest. The object is actually a galaxy named UDFy-38135539 (hippie parents, probably), and its undoubtedly weary light has travelled 13 billion light-years to reach us. This means that "it formed within 600 million years of the universe's creation," making the short-lived gamma-ray burst that used to be the Oldest Thing Ever look like a n00b.
