Competitive eating's resident bad boy, Takeru Kobayashi, chomped his way to a renegade victory in an unofficial hot-dog eating contest this July Fourth. Kobayashi — banned from the Coney Island Nathan's official hot-dog eating contest for his refusal to sign an exclusive contract with Major League Eating —  took part in a splinter contest, slamming sixty-nine hot dogs in ten minutes.

The official winner (of the sanctioned contest) was Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, who won the contest for a fifth year in a row, adding yet another "mustard belt" to his collection. Chestnut managed sixty-two hot dogs for his win. At least this is an improvement on Kobayshi's bizarre behavior last year, when he was arrested after rushing the stage following the contest.
