Mom lashes out at critics of her son’s “girly” Halloween costume

My Son As A Girl

The rant is headlined "My Son Is Gay" (which is followed by the disclaimer and introductory paragraph: "Or he’s not. I don’t care. He is still my son. And he is 5.") The anonymous blogger Cop's Wife is everyone's new favorite internet writer today after posting a rant about having to defend her son's harmless Halloween costume against some area bigots.

Her son Boo (not sure if that's his real name or just the pseudonym for the story) wanted to be Daphne from Scooby Doo… who's to say that's wrong? Well, Mom A was convinced Cop's Wife forced Boo to wear the costume, Mom B stared in horror and Mom C said it was a good thing Boo got it out of his system before entering kindergarten, where he would never have gotten away with it.

It also was heartbreaking to me that my sweet, kind-hearted five year old was right to be worried [about what people would think of his costume]. He knew that there were people like A, B, and C. And he, at 5, was concerned about how they would perceive him and what would happen to him.

Shame, shame.

I predict this part of the rant will be its most repeated:

"If you think that me allowing my son to be a female character for Halloween is somehow going to ‘make’ him gay then you are an idiot. Firstly, what a ridiculous concept. Secondly, if my son is gay, OK. I will love him no less. Thirdly, I am not worried that your son will grow up to be an actual ninja so back off." [Nerdy Apple Bottom]
